Robert Carol Wehunt
Robert Carol Wehunt, age 82, of 801 E. Hoke Street in Lincolnton, died on Friday, August 16, 2013.
His funeral service will be 1 p.m. today at Hulls Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Marcus Redding officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. today at Warlick Funeral Home and then from noon until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Wehunt was born September 3, 1930 in Lincoln County to the late Wilford Ralph and Brite Taylor Wehunt. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and then later worked as a truck driver for Carolina Freight Carriers for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, June Powell Wehunt of the home; two sons, Terry Andrew Wehunt and wife Deb and Ralph Carroll Wehunt and wife Lisa, all of Lincolnton; one brother, W.C. Wehunt and wife Dot of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Drew Wehunt, Hannah Wehunt, and Heather Wehunt; and one great-grandchild, Cloie Wehunt.

Gary Eugene Lutz
VALE — Gary Eugene Lutz, age 65, of 6043 Reepsville Road in Vale, died on Wednesday, August 14, 2013.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2013 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Locke officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Lutz was born February 18, 1948 in Lincoln County to the late Hugh Clifton and Vera Mae Hull Lutz. He served in the United States Army and then later worked in furniture.
He is survived by three brothers, James Lutz, Thames Lutz, and Farrel Lutz, all of Vale; and a sister, Sharon Lutz of Vale.

Steve Tyrone Mathis, 71, of Maiden passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at his residence.
He was born August 14, 1942 in Catawba County to the late Ross Wilson Mathis and Ora Lee Reinhardt Mathis.

Burial will follow in Mt. View Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Mt View Baptist Church in Maiden. Steve Thomas Roberts
Steve Thomas Roberts, 66, of Newton passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville.
He was born November 3, 1946 in Gaston County to the late Abe Roberts and Annie Sue Dellinger Roberts. Steve was an AA Mentor, an Army Veteran serving in Vietnam, having received an Air Medal, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and awarded a Purple Heart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alexis Zucco.
Survivors include wife of 25 years, Brenda Shook Roberts of the home; daughters, Kim Hass and husband Wes of Newton, Penny Zucco and husband Pete of Catawba, Sharon Goins and husband Scott of Newton; brother, Wade Roberts and wife Catrina of Lincolnton; grandchildren, John Hass, Brittany Hass, Jessica Everett, Allison Zucco, Madison Goins, Tabitha Goins, and Thomas Goins; niece, Miranda Roberts; nephews, Steven Roberts, Joshua Benfield.

Tabatha Spake Heavner
NEWTON — Tabatha Spake Heavner, 40, passed away August 14, 2013.
Tabatha was born May 21, 1973 in Catawba Co. to Debbie Icard Miller and Billy Spake Jr.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Mary Icard and her paternal grandmother, Betty Louise Canipe.
She was a 1991 graduate of Fred T. Foard High School. After graduation she studied cosmetology and to be a dental assistant. She was a member of Blackburn Baptist Church and was employed by Aptar Group, Inc. of Lincolnton.
Surviving are her former husband, Jason Heavner, of Conover; daughters; Chasity Spake of McGuire Air Force Base, Trenton, N.J. and Carly Heavner of Newton; son, Travis McGalliard, of Lenoir; mother and step father, Debbie and Danny Miller, of Newton; father and step mother, Billy and Debbie Spake, of Hickory; paternal grandfather, Bill Spake Sr., of Lawndale; sisters, Erica Spake Wallace, of Lincolnton, Leah Savastano of Oak Ridge, N.J. and Lauren Huffman of Hickory; brother, Stephen Craig, of Hickory and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be Sunday, August 18, at 3 p.m. at New Vision Ministries, Lincolnton with Pastor Scott Mann, Gary Walton and Marion Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Katherine Elizabeth Beam Leatherman, 86, of Vale passed away August 13, 2013 at her residence.
Born November 1, 1926 in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Austin Beam and Minnie Bess Beam. She was retired from Cleveland Cloth and Lincoln County Schools. Mrs. Leatherman was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Rubin Leatherman; son, Paul Rubin Leatherman Jr. and three brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Dale Leatherman and wife, Margurite of Cary, Dan Leatherman and wife, Tammy and Patrick F. Leatherman and wife, Donna all of Vale; daughter, Shasta Richardson and husband, Tommy of Vale; two brothers, Wayne Beam of Cherryville and Mike Beam of Flay; six grandchildren, David Richardson, Kristine Leatherman, Jacob Leatherman, Johnathan Hubbard, Johnathan Leatherman and Jalin Leatherman; three great-grandchildren, Karly Richardson, Shelby Richardson and Jayden Leatherman.
Visitation will immediately follow the graveside service. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. August 17, 2013 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery, Vale. Officiating will be Rev. Don Willis.

Clifton “Buck” Grier Jones, 92, of Stanley died Wednesday August 14, 2013 at his residence.
Born March 30, 1921 in Lincoln County he was a son of the late Sidney Roscoe Jones and Lula Nixon Jones. He served his country during WWII in the US Air Force as a mechanic and flight instructor, retired from the construction industry and enjoyed farming and gardening.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday August 17, 2013 in the Chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Martha’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home

Mary Lou Seagle Cline
Mary Lou Seagle Cline, age 95, of 2363 Seagletown Road in Vale, died on Wednesday, August 14, 2013.
Her funeral service will be 3 p.m. today at Daniels Lutheran Church with Rev. Ted Bost officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service in the fellowship hall of the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of Sam and Karen Byers.
Mrs. Cline was born August 31, 1917 in Lincoln County to the late Walter and Emma S. Seagle. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ira Cline and a brother, Paul Seagle. She worked as a clerk for Hovis Grocery and A & P. She joined Daniels Lutheran Church in 1931 and remained an active member, serving on the church council and was one of the oldest members. In addition, she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was a lifelong member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary.
She is survived by a stepdaughter, Margaret Cline Pettus and husband Dwight of Arden; two step-granddaughters, Lynn Pettus of Charlotte and Margaret Ann Bentley of Calif.; one step-great-granddaughter, Allyne McCory of Calif.; and a number of cousins in the Daniels community and Lincolnton.

Donna Bumgarner Nussman, PHD, RN, CRNO
Donna Bumgarner Nussman, 55, died in her home of an undisclosed illness on Saturday, August 10, 2013.
She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing from UNCC. She received her PhD from the University of South Carolina. She worked in N.C. hospitals primarily in the field of orthopedic nursing holding many leadership positions. Dr. Nussman was a member of the Association of peri-Operative Registered Nurses and was nationally certified as an orthopedic nurse. Orthopedic clinical research was a focus when she was an adjunct professor at UNCC.
As a teenager and young adult, she successfully competed in horseback riding and ice skating events. A part-time interest in ballroom dancing became a second career. She built a dance studio in her home offering instruction in all levels and types of dance. Donna was able to successfully coach award winning dance teams at both UNCC and Davidson College. She attended Back Creek Road Presbyterian Church in Charlotte.
She is survived by her father, Slade Bumgarner of Charlotte; her sister, Beth Bumgarner of Mooresville; her aunt, Joy Stewart of Cary, and her uncle Ed Honeycutt of Denver.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum, Reverend Wayne A. Frazier officiating with a visitation from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. prior to the service.
