A Celebration of their Lives was held August 11, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, Maiden.

William Edward Boyles
VALE — William Edward Boyles, age 92, of 4846 W. Highway 27 in Vale, died on Thursday, August 8, 2013.
His funeral was 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. George Williams officiating. The body was in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Boyles was born April 23, 1921 in Lincoln County to the late George Dewey and Pearl Houser Boyles. He served as a staff sergeant and squad leader in the United States Army, 36th Infantry Division, Company G 142nd, during World War II where he was awarded the Bronze Arrowhead, three bronze battle stars, a Purple Heart with oak leaf clusters, and a good conduct medal. Mr. Boyles retired from Carolina Freight Carriers after 33 years. He was a Mason, a member of Bess Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer, president of the West Lincoln High School sports boosters, and a member of the American Legion and VFW. In his spare time, he enjoyed family, gardening, and his pets.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Beulah Propst Boyles of the home; a daughter, Judy Ball and husband Larry of Boone; a son, Eddie Boyles and wife Debbie of Denver; three grandchildren, Jason Boyles and wife Kristy, Tracy Ball and wife Katie, Tyler Boyles and wife Amanda; great-grandson, Levi Ball; five sisters, Ida Burton of Vale, Doris Bobbitt of Bessemer City, Peggy Bumgardner of Cherryville, Nancy Houser of Vale, and Ardie Sue Boyles of Vale; a brother, Bud Boyles and wife Pat of Vale; seventeen nieces; and twelve nephews.

Michael Howard Buff
Michael Howard Buff, 54, of Lincolnton passed away gently on Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Mike was a gregarious, big-hearted man with an infectious chuckle and warm wit. Those fortunate enough to have known him will also remember him as articulate, intelligent and dogged in his pursuits.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Donald R. Buff. He is survived by his wife, Susan of Lincolnton; mother, Billie Dean (Cashion) Buff of Lincolnton; sister, Kelly (Buff) Barge and husband Rich Barge of Fayetteville, brother, Brad Buff and wife Ann of Raleigh and great aunt and uncle Edith and A.J. Lemmond Jr. of Lincolnton. Mike is also survived by eight nieces and nephews, Joseph, Jacob, Warren, David, Adam, Laura, Joey and Danny, and by his beloved great-niece Charlotte Rose.
Mike was employed for over 30 years with Airgas/National Welders Supply Company and held the position of Vice President Marketing and Strategic Products. In addition to his work, Mike’s greatest passions included Appalachian State University football (his Alma Mater), gardening, deep-sea fishing and boating of any kind. He also loved gadgets, tinkering and fixing things. He was always first to lend someone a helping hand. Mike will be missed by all and remembered in our hearts forever.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 3097 Asbury Church Rd., Lincolnton. The family greeted friends in the church fellowship hall beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday. At Mike’s request, a celebration of life party will be held this autumn in his honor.

Novena Jenny Hill Clinton, 80, of Lincolnton passed away Friday, August 9, 2013 at her residence.
Born November 10, 1932 in York Co., S.C., she was the daughter of the late Rueben Hill and the late Ocie Lillian Hullett Hill. In addition to her parents, husband, William Clinton, two infant sons; four sisters, Mildred Farmer; Virginia Bodenheimer; Willie Mae Stroupe and Myrtis Ann Gillelan preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, James Clinton of Vale, Michael Clinton of Westminster, Calif., Ronnie Clinton of Vale; one daughter, Lillian Clinton of Hickory; three sisters, Betty Sue Smith of Fort Wayne, Ind.., Jo Linda Lane of Lincolnton; Irene Hendrick of Shelby; nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
The Celebration of Life service will be held this evening at 7 p.m. at Spirit Life Church of God in Lincolnton with Pastor Gary Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends, prior to the service, from 6:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the church.
