Negotiations are in the final stages for a new Lincoln County manager, local officials announced Friday morning.
William (Tracy) Jackson, who currently serves as the assistant county manager for Iredell County, is expected to take up the post, “assuming all goes well” with finalizing his contract, Alex Patton, chairman of the Board of Commissioners, said in a news release.
“He brings with him many years of experience in county government, and we are excited that with his leadership, we can continue to move Lincoln County in a direction that promotes low taxes, provides quality schools, promotes much-needed economic development and provides needed services in the most cost-effective manner,” Patton said.
Discussion and a vote on his appointment is scheduled for the Aug. 19 commission meeting, with Jackson likely to start in his new role Sept. 3.
“We received 38 applications for this position and are honored with the quality and the number of applicants that were interested in being the next county manager of Lincoln County,” Patton said.
The field of applicants was narrowed down to a list of 10. From there, the number was reduced again to five. Following additional interviews, commissioners then selected the top-three candidates for the job.
“Any of these three would have served Lincoln County well,” he said.
Assistant County Manager Martha Lide has been serving in the role on an interim basis since George Wood retired at the end of June.
