Lincolnton police said a 25-year-old Maiden man was airlifted to a Charlotte hospital after crashing his motorcycle Monday afternoon along a city street.

Emergency Medical Services flew Christopher Allen Cottrell to Carolinas Medical Center-Main in Charlotte following the incident, according to a police report.

The man had been traveling East on East Gaston Street Extension in Lincolnton just after 4 p.m. when he took the road’s curve at a high rate of speed, propelling him down an embankment and into a ditch near Mohican Mills, police said.

According to officers, the road’s curve is significantly sharp and a common area for wrecks.

Police noted they located no signs of alcohol at the scene.

Cottrell has since been released from the hospital, Chief Rodney Jordan said.

Lincolnton Fire Department also assisted the incident.
