The Carolina Heat, a sixth-grade youth basketball team from Lincolnton, traveled to North Myrtle Beach, S.C., July 16-20 to compete in the USBA National Championship Tournament. The team won three of its five games and came in 10th overall. The Heat faced teams from New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Charlotte and Fayetteville. They were able to hear former Georgia Tech men’s basketball coach Bobby Cremins speak during the opening ceremony.
