Edna Nathlee Galloway Hamm

Edna Nathlee Galloway Hamm, 89 of Cherryville died July 15, 2013.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 1 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mary Beth Sigmon Newland

Mary Beth Sigmon Newland, 75, of Claremont died July 14, 2013.

The funeral service will be today at 4 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Claremont. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:30 until 3:45 p.m. in the church family life center.

Helen Colene Farmer

Helen Colene Hurt Farmer, age 86, of Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, July 16, 2013.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Gainsville Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael White officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the
service at the church.

Mrs. Farmer was born May 23, 1927 in Lincoln County to the late Millard and Dollie Stafford Hurt. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Fred Farmer, and seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by son, Douglas Jones and fiancé Ann McRoy of Lincolnton; daughter, Rhonda Jones Featherstone and husband David of Lincolnton; sister, Yvonne Hurt of Lincolnton, 6 grandchildren, Chris and wife Sarah Vance, Megan and husband Rocky Christian, Matthew and wife Adrianne Featherstone, Mitchell and wife Courtney Jones, Micah and wife Beatriz Featherstone, and Steven Jones, and 12 great grandchildren.

Michael Steven Richards

Michael Steven Richards, 57, of Grover, passed away suddenly on July 14, 2013. Born on December 2, 1955, in Mecklenburg Co. he was the son of the late Fred and Bobbie Abernathy Richards. Michael served proudly in the US Army.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Lowe Richards; children, Brandy, Deanna and Dusty; grandchildren, Kameron, DJ., Leland, Destiny, Cory, Eliza and Madelynn; sisters, Sandra and Cindy; brother, Mark.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at The Good Samaritan Funeral Home, 3362 North Highway 16, Denver.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013 at Salisbury National Cemetery

Jackie Albert ‘Jack’ Rhyne

CROUSE — Mr. Jackie Albert ‘Jack’ Rhyne, 78, of 2833 West Hwy 150, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2013 at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lincolnton.

Jack was born in Gaston County on May 7, 1935 a son of the late Everette Rhyne and Lucy Thornburg Rhyne. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Crouse and one of the original organizers of the Crouse Volunteer Fire
Department serving as Chief for a number of years.  For several years Jack worked in textiles and later worked and retired as a wrecker driver from Town Square Ford in Lincolnton.

In addition to his parents Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Ann McGinnis Rhyne and a sister, Irma L. Rhyne.

Survivors include a daughter, Teresa A. Rhyne of Lincolnton; one brother, William “Bill” Rhyne and wife Mildred of Charlotte; also surviving is a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 1:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Crouse. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Crouse with the Rev. Rick Sloop officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Margaret Elizabeth Reynolds Ingle

Margaret Elizabeth Reynolds Ingle, age 88, of the Brian Center in Lincolnton, died on Sunday, July 14, 2013.

Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m.
prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Ingle was born July 18, 1924 in Lincoln County to the late Carlos Webb and Annie Heafner Reynolds. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Forest Elliott Ingle; son, Clyde Elliott Ingle; five brothers, Paul Reynolds, J.P. Reynolds, Gene Reynolds, Johnny Reynolds, Calvin Reynolds; and three sisters, Letha Allran, Frances Smith, and Doris Ingle. She worked for Burris Industries.

She is survived by a son, Danny Ingle and wife Mary of Vale; brother, Gary Reynolds of Vale; six grandchildren, Melinda Brittain, Marty Ingle, Tammy Ingle Pennell, Todd Ingle, Terri Deaton, and Tim Ingle; 12 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Serita Bess Fowler

Serita Bess Fowler, age 85, of 1339 Wilma Sigmon Road in Lincolnton, passed into her heavenly home on Sunday, July 14, 2013, surrounded by her family.

Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Boger City Baptist Church with Pastors Bill Bigham and Brad Boyles officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove
Lutheran Church cemetery. Visitation will be at the home from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. this evening.

Mrs. Fowler was born February 24, 1928 in Lincoln  County to the late Lee Otis and Ola Blanche Whitworth Bess. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John H. Fowler; brothers, Bill and Pete Bess
and a sister, Lib Lackey. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was known as “Granny” to all and it was a name she loved. She was a strong remarkable woman and belonged to Boger City Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughters, Reta Taggart and husband Dave of Knoxville, Iowa, Barbara Thompson and Bob Dey of West Palm Beach, Fla., Donata Summey and husband Lum, Cindy Sherrill and husband Randy, all of Lincolnton; sisters,
Gayle Brendle and husband Junior of Rockwell, Agnes Sipe and husband Jack of Sherrills Ford; sister-in-law, Nellie Bess of Lincolnton; brother, Robert Bess and wife Lena of Lawndale; eight grandchildren, Angie Kenin, Rob Taggart, Brad
and Chad Boyles, Brooke Sherrill, Lauren Smith, Rick and Tim Garner; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Brandon, Miller, and Jackson Boyles, Sam and Sara Belle Boyles, Samm, Katie, Tiffany and Destiny Taggart, Riley and Tanner Kenin,
and John and Callie Garner.

Frances Geraldyne Newton Lockman

Frances Geraldyne Newton Lockman, 68, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at her home.

Born July 31, 1944 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late George Lee Newton and Carrie Frances Robinson Newton.

Geraldyne grew up in Iron Station and graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1962. She studied education at High Point College and Appalachian State University where she received a Master
of Arts.  Geraldyne retired in 2006 from the Caldwell County School System where she taught 4th and 5th graders for 33½ years and received many honors and awards.
After retirement, Geraldyne volunteered at the Helping Hands Clinic in Lenoir.

Geraldyne was a kind and gentle soul. She had a loving and generous heart and was always giving to her parents, husband, daughters, grandchildren, and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 50 years, John Wesley Lockman; three daughters, Maria Michaelle Lockman Greer, Jennifer Gayle Lockman, and Jonjie Joanne Lockman; and four grandchildren, Carrie Frances Greer, Sydney Gail Greer, Bergsvein Wesley Toverud, and Shelton Lee Toverud.

A memorial service will be held at Pendry’s Chapel on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 7 p.m.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dottie Tugman, Jane Curtis, and Kim Avery for their love and care for Geraldyne over the last few years as well as Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care during her final days.
