Local sailor graduates from Naval Academy
In July 2009, Garrett McCrary began his journey of becoming a midshipman of the United States Naval Academy. After 4 years, he completed that journey as he stepped across the stage of the United States Naval Academy’s football stadium on May 24, pausing momentarily to shake the hand of President Barack Obama and receive his diploma in mathematics. McCrary, a 2009 graduate of North Lincoln High School, will fulfill his active duty role after reporting to Pensacola, Fla. on August 2 to begin his career as a Naval Flight Officer. McCrary joins the ranks of other family members, who like himself have taken the role of protecting and serving our great country. Just like his Grandfather Jenkins (WWII) and Grandfather McCrary (Vietnam) and five Jenkins uncles, McCrary takes great pride in standing watch for our safety and security as a nation. McCrary is the son of Jeff & Jean Jenkins-McCrary of Sherrills Ford. He is the grandson of the late Robert B. Jenkins (US Navy) and the late Charles N. McCrary (US Army) along with their wives Marie Eurey Jenkins & Sandra F. McCrary, both of Lincolnton.
