Police have apprehended more than 20 area drug suspects since initiating Operation “Independence Day” on Wednesday.
A three-month undercover investigation targeted dealers accused of buying and selling marijuana and pharmaceuticals such as Hydrocodone, Xanax, Dilaudid, Oxycodone and Clonazepam.
Undercover officers Sgt. Det. J. Munday and Det. D. McAllister also encountered smaller amounts of heroin, crack cocaine and methamphetamine during their investigation.
Police said one man sold his child’s ADHD medicine at his child’s request. As a result, the child will face charges in juvenile court.
Officers additionally executed two search warrants Wednesday at both a residence and city business.
Both Tobacco Outlet Owner Sanketkumar “Sam” Ashokbhai Patel and store employee Jamie Carolyn Reynolds sold marijuana to undercover officers and an informant, police said.
In addition to real marijuana, officers said they purchased synthetic forms of the drug on more than one occasion from March to June.
During the store search, police found more than 100 smoking pipes and at least 50 packs of fake marijuana stuffed inside cigarette cartons, a press release said. They also seized an unknown amount of cash.
The synthetic drug has since been sent to the State Crime Lab for testing.
Patel may be charged with synthetic cannabis possession if the substance yields a positive result, investigators said.
In an unrelated incident earlier that day, police searched a home at 1106 Lincoln Street, where they located crack cocaine, marijuana, cash and a .22 revolver handgun, they said.
Residents Brandie Denesha McGill, Michael Jackie Evans Jr., and Tevin Marquette Smith were charged in the incident.
While police worked in teams of two to arrest alleged dealers across the city, Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies and officers from surrounding law enforcement agencies picked up wanted individuals in areas outside Lincolnton and the county, the release said.
