Deputies said they located one of two Lincoln County sisters who ran away from their residence earlier this month.
A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer went to Carolinas Medical Center-Main on Wednesday and identified patient Aniya Symone Mickey-Weeks as one of the missing teens, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The 14-year-old’s grandmother took her to the medical facility after she complained about stomach pain, according to an agency press release.
The CMPD officer contacted Lincoln County authorities after locating the young girl.
Her 17-year-old sister Mahagony Smith is still missing, deputies said.
The two ran away from their home on McCorkle Road on the county’s northern end on June 25, the release said.
A godmother told deputies she didn’t know they had fled their home and had dropped them off at a Charlotte residence.
Mickey-Weeks is currently staying with her grandmother, who also lives in Charlotte.
The Sheriff’s Office described Smith as a 5-foot-7 African-American girl weighing about 125 pounds. Her information remains entered into the National Crime Information Center at this time.
Anyone with details of Smith’s whereabouts is asked to call the Lincoln County Communications Center at (704) 735-8202 or the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at (704) 732-9050.
