Staff report

The Lincoln County Cardinals and Cherryville Post 100 both earned home-field advantage in the first round of the American Legion Area IV baseball playoffs with their regular-season records.
Post 100, which one its record sixth-straight Area IV title last year, secured the No. 4 seed in the Western Division and opens at home today at Fraley Field at 7 p.m. against Huntersville, the Eastern Division’s No. 5 seed.
Lincoln County, which finished fourth in the Eastern Division standings, opens a best-of-five series against No. 6 Henderson County today at 7 p.m. at East Lincoln High School.
A win in the first round would pit Lincoln County against either East No. 8 Haywood or West No. 1 Shelby. Cherryville would get either East No. 1 Mint Hill or West No. 8 Burke County
