July 4th parade
The City of Cherryville will host an Independence Day Celebration 6-10 p.m. at the mini-park in downtown Cherryville featuring Guest D.J. John Barkley and Jim Quick & The Coastline Band. Fireworks will follow at 10 p.m. There will also be food vendors. Attendants are asked to bring a lawn chair.

New Student Orientation
Gaston College will host a four-day Basic Skills New Student Orientation class 9 a.m. to noon and 5:30-8:30 p.m. today through July 11 in room 118 of the Lincoln Campus, 511 S. Aspen St. in Lincolnton. Changes to the GED will commence in 2014, affecting cost and method of testing. Previous partial test scores will also expire. Students are required to take the orientation class before taking the GED or receiving an Adult High School diploma. Additional class dates will be July 22-25 and Aug. 5-8.
