Quilt Guild

July 4th parade
The City of Cherryville will host an Independence Day Celebration 6-10 p.m. at the mini-park in downtown Cherryville featuring Guest D.J. John Barkley and Jim Quick & The Coastline Band. Fireworks will follow at 10 p.m. There will also be food vendors. Attendants are asked to bring a lawn chair.

Hot dog sale
Cardinal Healthcare & Rehab, 931 N. Aspen St. in Lincolnton, will sell hot dogs, sausage dogs, chips and a drink 6:30-8:30 p.m. with proceeds benefiting the organization’s activities.

Church buffet
Bethel Baptist Church, 200 Bethel Ch. Rd. in Lincolnton, will host a breakfast buffet 7-10 a.m. Cost is $6.

Yard sale
Daystar Family Worship Center, 115 Industrial Park Rd. in Lincolnton, will host a yard sale (rain or shine) starting 8 a.m.

Medicine Drop-off
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office will hold a special unwanted medicine drop-off 9-11 a.m. at the Baker District Office, 700 John Howell Memorial Dr. in Lincolnton. Accepted items will be over-the-counter medications, vitamins and supplements, prescriptions, liquid medicines in leak-proof containers, syringes, ointments and creams and any other unwanted medications. Aerosol cans will not be accepted. Individuals may remain anonymous. For questions, call (704) 732-9050.

Computer Users Group
The Computer Users Group of Lincolnton (CUGoL’s) will host their annual BBQ meeting today. Visitors are welcome. The group usually meets 10 a.m. the first Saturday of each month at the Charles R. Jonas Library, W. Main St. in Lincolnton.

 Motorcyclists Association

Gospel concert

New Student Orientation
Gaston College will host a four-day Basic Skills New Student Orientation class 9 a.m. to noon and 5:30-8:30 p.m. today through July 11 in room 118 of the Lincoln Campus, 511 S. Aspen St. in Lincolnton. Changes to the GED will commence in 2014, affecting cost and method of testing. Previous partial test scores will also expire. Students are required to take the orientation class before taking the GED or receiving an Adult High School diploma. Additional class dates will be July 22-25 and Aug. 5-8. Register by Aug. 1 to attend A.S.P.I.R.E., (ACT Supplemental Preparation In Rural Education) curriculum to help improve ACT scores. The N.C. Cooperative Extension is hosting the exam 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 24, Sept. 28, Nov. 2 and Dec. 7, each at the Citizens Center in Lincolnton.
