Lincoln County logs seven hits in mercy-rule defeat

The Lincoln County Cardinals fell to the eighth-place Carolina Heat 13-3 in seven innings in Area IV Eastern Division action on Monday at Newton-Conover High School.
The Heat out-hit the Cardinals 13-7 and posted four runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead.
Lincoln County got on the board with one run in the third but after the Cardinals scored two more runs in the sixth, the Heat held a 8-3 lead.
The Heat scored three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to close out the game with a 10-run rule victory.
David Scoggins led Lincoln County at the plate with two hits, including a two-run home run.
The Cardinals host Union County today at 7 p.m. at East Lincoln High School.
