Iris Blankenship Bradley

Mrs. Iris Blankenship Bradley, age 82, formerly of Mirror Lake Road in Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, June 11, 2013.

Her funeral service will be 3:00 pm on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at First Baptist Church of High Shoals with Rev. Doug McClain and Rev. Charles Ingle officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 pm prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Bradley was born April 27, 1931 in Lincoln County to the late Dennis E. and Bessie Ellis Blankenship. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband George Richard Bradley and a sister Lavonne Greene.  Mrs. Bradley retired as a seamstress and was a well known AVON representative.

Survivors include three sons, George Richard Bradley, Jr. and wife Ailene, Robert Scott Bradley and wife Sharon and Greg Bradley and wife Cindy, all of Lincolnton; one brother, Bobby E. Blankenship and wife Joann of Mt. Holly; seven grandchildren, Kristy Edwards and husband Dawson, David Bradley, Hollan Delany and husband Matthew, Kendal Bradley and fiancé Zack Gibson, and Preston Bradley, Jeremiah McConnell and wife April, Nathan McConnell and wife Rebekah; six greatgrandchildren.

Robert Wilson Philbeck, Sr.,

Robert Wilson Philbeck, Sr., 94, of Port Orange, Fla., and formerly of Shelby died Friday, June 7, 2013.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Ted Bost officiating.

Frances Irene Gilbert Auton

Mrs. Frances Irene Gilbert Auton, age 78, of 2381 Rock Dam Road, Lincolnton died Sunday, June 9, 2013.

Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. John Locke officiating. Her body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Auton was born on October 26, 1934 in Lincoln County and was the daughter of the late George Franklin and Carrie Grace Wilson Gilbert.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gene Auton.  Mrs. Auton was retired after 31 years at Mohican Mills and also enjoyed crocheting, gardening and participating in church activities.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Gene Auton and wife, Kim of Lincolnton and Jody Auton and wife, Sylvia of Lincolnton; two daughters, Deborah Smith of Lincolnton and Barbara Christopher and husband, Kenny of Lincolnton; sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, PO Box 7, Vale NC 28168.

Evelyn Virginia Turner Hawkins

Mrs. Evelyn Virginia Turner Hawkins, age 90, of 595 Bethel Church Road, Lincolnton died Monday, June 10, 2013

She was born August 26, 1922 in Lincoln County to the late Julius Sylvanus and Beddie Hoyle Turner. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Zenus William Hawkins and five brothers and four sisters. She was employed at Burris Industries and Rolane.

Her funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Survivors are sons; Van Hawkins and wife Donna of Belmont, Randy Hawkins and wife Sherry of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Lindsey and Jonathan Hawkins, Jacob and wife Kristin Hawkins, Caleb and wife Melanie Hawkins.

Memorials may be made to the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.

Jack David ‘J. D.’ Heavner

NEWTON — Mr. Jack David “J.D.” Heavner, age 77, of Newton went to be with the Lord Monday, June 10, 2013.

J.D. was a native of Catawba County born on May 2, 1936 son of the late Henry Lee and Eather Smith Heavner.  Mr. Heavner was a life time member of Grace Lutheran Church and was employed as a truck driver for 46 years and retired from Bob’s Pallets, Lincolnton. J.D. was preceded in death by a son, David.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Lorene Keever Heavner; daughter, Brenda McConnell and husband Steve; son, Kenneth Heavner; and grandson, Joshua McConnell and wife Jennifer. He is also survived by his brother, Herman Heavner and wife Joanne and sister Violet Hatchett, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held this evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Newton. Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2013 with a graveside service immediately following.

Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund, 4535Hickory-Lincolnton Highway.

Brenda Sue Eurey Jones

Mrs. Brenda Sue Eurey Jones, age 70, of Overhill Lane Lincolnton died on Tuesday June 11, 2013.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 14, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at Reepsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Hull officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Jones was a native of Lincoln County daughter of the late Adam and Estelle Long Eurey. Mrs. Jones worked for Lincoln County as a maintenance worker at the Citizen Center.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Marshall Jones of the home; three sons, David  M. Jones of Iron Station, Billy Hendrick of Lincolnton, Tony Jones of Lawndale; one daughter, Angela Laughlin of Iron Station; four brothers, John Eurey of Shelby, Max Eurey and Herb Eurey both of Lincolnton, and Bill Eurey of Iron Station; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Sally McElveen Rankin

MOUNT HOLLY — Sally McElveen Rankin, 95, a resident of Woodlawn Haven rest home died on Sunday, June 9, 2013. She was wife of the late James O. Rankin and was preceded in death by nine siblings. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Holly.

She is survived by one daughter, Gloria Perkins of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Allen Perkins and wife Lesa of Lincolnton, Liz Reeder and fiancé Jeff Baucom of Oak Island, and Christina Neher and husband Blair of Richmond, Va.; three great grandchildren, Eric Perkins and companion Ashley Piercy of Lincolnton, Alex Perkins and wife Krysta of Fort Stewart, Ga., and Darian Perkins of Lincolnton; one great-great grandchild, Genevieve Perkins.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Rankin will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, 201 Robin Road, Lincolnton, with Dr. Stanley Spence, Rev. Wilson Rhoton, and Rev. Jason Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly and at other times will be at 1944 Salem Church Road, Lincolnton, NC.

Andrea McKee Ray, 48, died June 9, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, Cherryville. Burial will be in the family plot of Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday at the church from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m., prior to the service.

Mary Frances Reep Grigg, 103, of Lincolnton died June 10, 2013.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. today at Messiah United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Zion Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at Messiah United Methodist Church.
