Deputies were quick to apprehend five suspects, including four teens, within minutes after the group allegedly broke into a Lincolnton home over the weekend.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said the following individuals were taken into custody Saturday evening: Brittany Nicole Cornwell, 19, of 1862 Scottswood Lane in Lincolnton; Dalton James Blackburn, 17, of 1208 Weathers Drive in Newton; James Holland Helms, 18, 1877 Winding Cedar Drive in Maiden; Felipe Pena, 20, of 820 Alexander Street in Lincolnton; and Jordan Andrew Steelman, 18, 1208 Weathers Drive in Newton.
The suspects used the front door to gain entry into a residence on the 700 block of South Grove Street Extension around 6:30 p.m. and stole a television, an agency press release said.
Deputies responded to the scene after a neighbor, who used a personal vehicle to block the suspects’ vehicle in the driveway, contacted officers.
Three of the five individuals had already fled the area on foot when officers got to the home, but deputies said they located them about a half-hour later.
Each suspect was charged with one felony count of breaking and entering a building, larceny after breaking and entering, conspiracy and possession of stolen goods.
Steelman and Helms remain in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond apiece while Pena and Blackburn have each since been released on a $10,000 secured bond. Cornwell posted a $5,000 secured bond, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Detective Jon Propst and deputies with the Adam District investigated the incident.
