Lester Junior Burgess

DENVER — Mr. Lester Junior Burgess, age 76, of 5154 Roy Ballard Street in Denver, died on Friday, May 31, 2013.

His funeral service was held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Lonnie Ramsey and Rev. Macon Ballard officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The body was in state for 30 minutes prior to the service.  Visitation was from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mr. Burgess was born June 22, 1936 in Lincoln County to the late James Lester and Verona Sherrill Burgess.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Ward Burgess, a daughter, Brenda Burgess Dameron, one brother, Hobert Ervin Burgess, and a sister, Clafton Kathleen “Polly” Burgess.  He worked for Cronland Wrap and Roll.

He is survived by four sons, John Lester Burgess, Jerry Lee Burgess, Robert Junior Burgess, all of Denver and Michael Von Burgess of Lincolnton; six brothers, Charles Ray Burgess of Denver, James Edmond Burgess of Maiden, Harold Lee Burgess, Wayne David Burgess, Boyd Eugene Burgess, and Darrell Ellis Burgess, all of Denver; two sisters, Vinnie Burgess Goodson of Hickory and Carolyn Burgess Doolittle of Denver; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Marshall Wilson Fox

Mr. Marshall Wilson Fox, age 67, of 3122 Maiden Highway in Lincolnton, died on Thursday, May 30, 2013.

His funeral service will be 4 p.m. today at McKendree United Methodist Church with Rev. Tommy Conder and Rev. Rick Crouse officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Fox was born February 16, 1946 in Lincoln County to the late Albert Henry and Isabelle Victoria Byers Fox. He served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War and then later worked as a supervisor in furniture manufacturing.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Cash Fox of the homed; one son, Brian Fox of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Angela Fox Ritch and husband Jonathan of Granite Falls; and three granddaughters, Lorin Burgess, Emma Fox, and Brenna Burgess.

Naomia Elizabeth Ingle Haynes

Naomia Elizabeth Ingle Haynes, age 76, of 1052 Guy Heavner Road in Lincolnton, died on Friday, May 31, 2013.

Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. today at Reepsville Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Hull and Rev. Matt Seagle officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service.  Visitation was from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Haynes was born July 10, 1936 in Lincoln County to the late Burton and Lille Mae Gales Ingle. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Haynes of the home; a son, Paul Haynes of Lincolnton; a daughter, Judy Brandt and husband Lynn of Cherryville; a brother, Ray Ingle and wife Martha of Lincolnton; and two grandsons, Wayne and Nick Brooks.

Daphine Florence Hoyle Houser

Mrs. Daphine Florence Hoyle Houser, age 90, of North Grove Street, Lincolnton died Sunday, June 02, 2013.

Her funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Mike Collins officiating.  The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday in the North Wing of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.  Burial will be in Hollybrook Cemetery in Lincolnton.

Mrs. Houser was born on July 5, 1922 in Lincoln County and was the daughter of the late Joshua Hillard Hoyle and Myrtle Baxter Hoyle.  She was also preceded in death by two brothers, George Hoyle and Jim Hoyle. She retired after 26 years as the Activity Coordinator for Carolina Care in Cherryville, was very active in the BPW of Lincolnton and was also an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Houser is survived by her daughter, Judy Houser Jones and husband, Tom Jones of Kings Mountain; one brother, Kenneth Hoyle of Chapel Hill and one grandson, Matthew F. Jones of Brooklyn, NY.

Julius Sherrill

Julius Milton Sherrill, 91, of Lincolnton passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013. Born September 8, 1921 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Samuel T. Sherrill and the late Pearl Campbell Sherrill.

Mr. Sherrill was a member of Boger City Baptist Church in Lincolnton; a graduate of Lincolnton High School and King’s Business College in Charlotte; a World War II US Army veteran; and owner/ operator of Williams Auto Parts in Maiden.

In addition to his parents, wife of 64 years, True Irene Williams Sherrill and a sister, Ethel Sherrill Canipe preceded him in death.

Survivors include one son, Robert “Bobby” Sherrill and wife, Cindy of Lincolnton; one daughter, Irene Martha Sherrill Specht and husband Ron of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Jason Specht and Lisa of Denver; Anna Cather and Andy of Lincolnton; Matthew Specht and Holly of Lincolnton; Robert Sherrill and Jessica of Shelby and one great-grandchild, Evie Specht.

The funeral service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Boger City Baptist Church in Lincolnton with Rev. Bill Bigham and Rev. Robert Redding officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Matthews United Church of Christ Cemetery in Maiden with graveside honors by American Legion Post 16 of Newton.

The family will receive friends, prior to the service, from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church.

Claudette Warlick

2/20/1946-5/31/2013

Claudette Hoyle Warlick, 67, of 4947 NC Hwy. 226 in Bostic passed away Friday May 31, 2013 at home.

Born in Lincoln County on February 20, 1946, she was a daughter of Claude Hoyle of Lincolnton and the late Stella Alene Clark Hoyle. She was a retired clerk for Good Ole Boys Country Store in Bostic and she was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her father, survivors include her husband of thirty five years, J. Hugh Warlick; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Phillip Goins & Lisa of Lincolnton, Eric Andrew Warlick & Lynn of Bostic, and Jeremy Claude Warlick & Amy of Bostic; daughter & son-in-law, Pamela Goins Chapman & Terry of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Becky Martin of Cherryville, Deborah Bassett of Lincolnton, and Wanda Dellinger of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Heather Armstrong, Larry Goins, Storme Chapman, Easton Warlick, and Ridge Warlick.

Visitation was at Stamey Funeral Home Saturday June 1, 2013 from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m.

The funeral service was at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 4 p.m. with Dr. John Ware officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Baptist Church.

Barbara A. Russell

Pastor Barbara A. Russell age, 65 of Lincolnton died Thursday, May 30, 2013.

Funeral service is Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 4 p.m. at Providence Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow in Hollybrook cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

Christopher Patrick “Pat” Lyons, 68, of Claremont died Friday, May 31, 2013.

A memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church, Conover.

The family will receive friends today from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Margaret Ann Hill Plyler, 58, of Newton died Saturday, June 1, 2013.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel, Newton. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery, Newton.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12 noon until 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.
