Catherine Rebecca Crist Frebert
Catherine Rebecca Crist Frebert, 87, from Hickory and formerly from Lincolnton, passed into her eternal rest with our Lord on May 23, 2013. She died at home after a battle with cancer. She was the wife of the late John Frebert.
Mrs. Frebert was born in Timberville, Va. and was the daughter of Lucy Thompson Crist Beam and Lee D. Crist. She was the mother of eight children, 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
A loving mother, Mrs. Frebert is survived by seven children, Becky Lain of Cookeville, Tenn., Kathy Mayne of Mt. Airy, Md., Irene Wallace of New Windsor, Md., Jeannette Rippeon of Vale, Sharon Fisher of Knoxville, Tenn., Diane Blizzard of Hickory, and David Frebert of Port Deposit, Md. She was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Frebert.
Besides being a homemaker, Mrs. Frebert was a Tupperware Dealer for 14 years. She loved music and began singing as a child. She performed in community choral groups and in church choirs into her 80s. She was fun loving, humorous and loved to play Wii bowling. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at Pinecrest, a retirement community where she lived, and was actively involved in all activities there.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at 2 p.m. till 3:45 p.m. with a memorial service at 4 p.m. at the Hickory First Assembly of God Church located at 1301 12th St Dr NW Hickory, NC 28601.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658.

Howard Edward Lawing
Mr. Howard Edward Lawing, age 86, of 2243 Country Club Road in Lincolnton, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. He was born November 18, 1926 to the late L.V. and Mary Sigmon Lawing.
His funeral service will be held at 2:15 p.m. today at Boger City UMC with the Rev. Allan Van Meter and Rev. Joe Ervin officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Survivors include wife, Betty Shuford Lawing; daughter, Connie L. Pratt and husband Robert of Sherrills Ford; granddaughter, Libby Troughton and husband Tim of Marietta, Ga.; brothers, Jackie Lawing, Donald Lawing, Wallace Lawing, Tony Lawing, all of Lincolnton, and Jerry Lawing of Sherrills Ford; sisters, Pat Rush and Jeannie Arrowood of Lincolnton.
Howard was preceded in death by one daughter, Jill L. Kiser and brother, Charles Lawing.

Charles Edward Waldren, 65, of Hickory died May 23, 2013.
A memorial service will be held May 25, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church – Mountain View Campus. The family will receive friends on May 25, 2013 following the service at the church, then a gathering of family and friends will be held at the home of Consetta Fisher.

IRON STATION — Mr. Darrell Hoover, age 81, of 3251 Bluegrass Lane in Iron Station, died on Thursday, May 23, 2013.
His funeral service was 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Dr. Danny W. Penny officiating. Burial followed in the Alexis Baptist Church cemetery. The family received friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:50 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Hoover was born October 17, 1931 in Gaston County to the late Loy and Fannie Long Hoover. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by grand daughter-in-law, Tisa Dellinger and great-granddaughter, Payton Dellinger. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and then later worked as a pipe installer.
He is survived by his wife, June Humphries Hoover of the home; a daughter, Donna H. Dellinger and husband Bobby of Maiden; a sister, Phyllis H. Ritchie of Iron Station; three grandchildren, Brandon Dellinger, Dustin Dellinger and wife Kadie, and Ashton Dellinger; and a great-grandson, Sawyer Dellinger.
