No-swim advisory lifted for Lake Norman cove

Staff Writer

A no-swim advisory issued earlier this week following a sewage spill in one Lake Norman cove in eastern Lincoln County has been canceled.
The county’s Health Department approved the cancellation at 3 p.m. Thursday for all residents in the cove area bordering the 8000 block of Malibu Pointe Lane, in the Lucky Creek Subdivision in Denver.
As the Times-News previously reported, the wastewater spill occurred late Monday night as a result of construction in the area, with an estimated 1,000 gallons of untreated sewage flowing into the cove. The flow was stopped but prompted the swimming notice shortly thereafter.
Lincoln County Public Works has tested three sites in the affected area daily for fecal coliform levels, with two consecutive samples received at all three testing sites meeting the Division of Water Quality standards.
