A sewage spill in eastern Lincoln County late Monday night has resulted in a swimming advisory for one Lake Norman cove.

An estimated 1,000 gallons of untreated sewage flowed into an unnamed cove at the 8000 block of Malibu Pointe Lane, in the Lucky Creek Subdivision in Denver, according to a notice issued around 10 p.m. Monday by Lincoln County Public Works.

A result of construction in the area, the wastewater spill has since been stopped and testing of the discharge site is underway.

The county’s Health Department has been notified and recommends that all boaters, fisherman and swimmers avoid contact with the lake water in the affected area until further notification.

The Division of Water Quality has also been notified and is reviewing the matter.

For more information, contact the Public Works Department at (704) 736-8497.
