Staff report

A second cancellation due to poor field conditions after several days of heavy rain means there isn’t going to be a Southern Piedmont 1A/2A Conference Tournament champion this year.
The game between No. 1 West Lincoln and No. 2 East Lincoln was canceled Monday due to a downpour and was again canceled on Tuesday — the last day that regular season games can be played as mandated by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
The teams were going to meet for the fourth time this season, the conference regular-season champion West Lincoln Rebels owning a 3-0 record in the series.
The playoffs begin Friday and, although official brackets will be released later today, coaches have a pretty good idea who their teams will be facing.
West Lincoln will likely host Brevard on Friday while East Lincoln will host either Charles D. Owen or Mountain Heritage. North Lincoln is slated to travel to Bandys.
