At least one person has died following a head-on collision Thursday night on the county’s eastern end, troopers said.
According to Trooper C. Cline with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Gary Errickson, 47, was killed just before 9:20 p.m. after his 1998 Honda civic, which was traveling North on N.C. 16, crossed the center line and struck a 2012 Chevy impala carrying three people.
The incident occurred near S. Pilot Knob Road in Denver.
Emergency Medical Services rushed the three other victims to Carolinas Medical Center-Main in Charlotte with critical injuries, Cline said.
Troopers estimated the speed of impact to be 50 mph but are uncertain at this time if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
“We won’t know until the toxicology reports come back,” Cline said.
East Lincoln Fire Department also responded to the scene.
