The No. 2 East Lincoln Mustangs opened the Southern Piedmont Conference baseball tournament with an 11-0 shutout over the No. 7 Lincolnton Wolves on Thursday.
Darin Salter pitched the win in the five-inning, 10-run rule game with five strikeouts and two hits.
East Lincoln (15-9) scored four runs in the first, two in the second and five in the fourth.
Clay Hodges led East Lincoln at the plate with two hits, including a two-run home run in the second, three runs scored and three RBIs.
Addison Parrish went 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI, Danny Sullivan added a hit and three RBIs and Chase Watson went 2-2 with a run scored and an RBI.
“Good win to start tournament play, with every player in the starting line-up recording at least one hit,” East Lincoln head coach Chris Matile said in an email. “Senior Darin Salter threw a great game to pick up his sixth win of the season. Had a great defensive effort led by short stop Danny Sullivan and center fielder Clay Hodges.”
The Mustangs host Cherryville tonight at 7 p.m. in the tournament semifinals.
