A Gaston County man is accused of engaging in sexual activity with a teen girl last year in Lincoln County, deputies said.
Jeffrey Scott Callahan, 47, of the 200 block of Creekside Court in Bessemer City, is behind Gaston County bars under a $900,000 secured bond for multiple charges in the case, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.
Local deputies charged him Wednesday with two felony counts of statutory rape/sexual offense of a 13-, 14-, or 15-year-old defendant by a person more than six years older than the victim along with one felony count of taking indecent liberties with a child.
The recent charges were filed after Gaston County officers told Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives the man admitted during questioning to having sexual contact with the 14-year-old girl between Sept. 1 and Oct. 26 last year in Lincoln County.
Gaston County police originally charged Callahan in the case in March for incidents they said took place with the teen at his residence.
Lincoln County deputies received a report in October that the suspect and teen were seen kissing behind a church on the county’s western end, according to an agency press release.
The case was then turned over to Gaston County authorities after one of the victim’s family members found a memory card revealing additional instances of the suspect and victim kissing at the man’s home, the release said.
Gaston County police have charged Callahan with 17 counts of disseminating obscene material to a minor and indecent liberties.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detective Kelly Paris filed the local charges against the suspect.
