Jean Wilson Anderson

Jean Wilson Anderson, 83, died April 25, 2013 at Cardinal Health Care. She was born in Gaston County; daughter of the late R.W. and Lavada McGinnis Wilson, and was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Anderson; two sisters, Rebecca Wilson and Doris Devon; and brother, Bill Wilson.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Canipe of Lincolnton; two sons, Joe Canipe and wife Sylvia of Stanley, and Terry Canipe of Stanley; two brothers, B.C. Wilson and wife Essie of Lexington, S.C., Ronnie Wilson and wife Mary of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Joyce Smith and husband Bobby, and Sybile Wilson all of Shelby; two grandchildren, Tiffney C. Murphy and husband Gene, Jason Canipe and wife Melinda all of Stanley; two great grandchildren, Caroline Murphy and Davin Canipe all of Stanley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service conducted by the Reverend Clay Ledford was held 4 p.m. Sunday April 28, 2013 at Hardin Community Baptist Church. The family received friends at the church from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Dee G. ‘Smiley’ Jordan

Dee G. “Smiley” Jordan passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, April 26, 2013, at age 95.  He was active until the last two months of his life, living – as he had for nearly 60 years in his home in Lincolnton.

He was born in Graham County on June 13, 1917 to the late James L. Jordan and Luella Postell Jordan.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Addie Irene Colvard Jordan; one sister, Gertrude Foley; four brothers, Mack Jordan, James Jordan, Ralph Jordan and Ronald Jordan and a great-grandson, Noah Olson.

He is survived by four sons, Max Jordan and wife Marsha, Gerald Jordan and wife Nancy, James Jordan and wife Sharon, and Joey Jordan all of Lincolnton; three daughters, Nancy Riley, Louann Freshour and husband Jim Johnston, and Gail Villalobos all of Lincolnton; fourteen grandchildren, Jeri Lawing and husband Robert, Mitch Jordan and wife Tina, Jason Jordan, Julie Jordan, Brad Jordan, Jeff Jordan and wife Debbie, Dori Gantt and husband Allen, Leslie Riley, Tommy Riley and wife Mandy, Matt Freshour, Kate Davis and husband Devin, Sarah Johnston, Jessica Olson and husband Tjad and Lisa Villalobos; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

He was a 32nd Degree Scottish-Rite Mason with the Lincoln Lodge 137.  He was a member for over 50 years.

Daddy came to Lincoln County on October 15, 1934 from Graham County; he met and married the love of his life, Addie Irene Colvard.  They raised seven children and were married for 75 years.

He retired from Carolina Freight Carriers of Cherryville where he was a long-line driver for over thirty years.  Smiley, as he was known to all who knew him, was one of the first drivers to bring a diesel truck down from the North to Cherryville.

He was a beloved dad and papaw and will be missed dearly.  He always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel in Lincolnton with the Rev. Charles Ingle officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.  The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Warlick Funeral Home.  Masonic Rites will be observed at the graveside.

Memorials may be made to the Masonic Children’s Home in Oxford, NC or American Red Cross.

Lillian Rhyne Kanipe

Lillian Rhyne Kanipe, 91, recently of Flagler Beach, Fla., passed away at her daughter’s home on April 21, 2013.

Lillian was born and raised in her beloved hometown of Lincolnton.  She moved with her husband, the late Rev. L. M. Kanipe, to Va. where he was pastor of several churches over their years together.  In 1954 they adopted three children that were very fortunate to find such loving and caring parents. Within three months they were an instant family. Lillian graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wake Forest University and found joy in following her alma mater throughout her life enjoying the sports and always pulling for the Deacons.  She loved teaching.  She was a math teacher at heart and left her legacy on many students throughout Virginia and North Carolina.  She moved back to her much loved town of Lincolnton to be near her parents and other relatives in 1974.  She and her sister, Helen Rhyne Blackburn, lived next door to each other and her many brothers were always there with the two sisters to support each other. She was always doing things for others and never wanted recognition or the spotlight. She was a wonderful mom, grandmom, sister, and friend.  You could always count on her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Minnie Rhyne; brothers, Franklin Rhyne, Clyde Rhyne, Claude Rhyne and Grover Rhyne; and son, David L. Kanipe.

Survivors include her oldest son, Joseph R. Kanipe and his wife Sharon; daughter, Libby Kanipe Willis and her husband Stanley M. Willis; siste,r Helen R. Blackburn; brother, Kenneth Rhyne and his wife Marlene. She was very proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Amy Kanipe Ratzlaff, her children, Ryan and Olivia, of Bloxom, Va. and Jason Kanipe and his wife Ashley, their children, Garrett and Sydney, of Roy, UT.  Her caretaker, Glenda Fairrow held a special place in her heart as she spent many hours caring for her.  She also has many other relatives and many friends that she loved dearly.

Memorial donations are requested in her memory to RiverView Baptist Church, 2230 Riverview Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092 or Bethel Baptist Church, 14050 Bethel Church Road, Bloxom, VA 23308.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held May 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. at RiverView Baptist Church, Lincolnton.  A reception will be held at the church afterwards.

 

William Edward Castle

William Edward Castle, 81, of Newton died April 27, 2013.

Services will be held April 30, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home. Interment will be at Eastview Cemetery, Newton.

Virginia Bowden Cline, 84, of Lincolnton died April 27, 2013

Margaret Stroupe Fraley

Margaret Stroupe “Maggie” Fraley, 92, of Cherryville died April 27, 2013.

Visitation will be today from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Cherryville.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery.

Sarah Smith Linder

Sarah Smith Linder, 92, of Cherryville died April 26, 2013.

A memorial service will be held in the Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral and Cremation Services April 30, 2013 at 1 p.m. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from noon until 12:45 p.m.
