Reality TV star visits Denver to raise funds for Texas explosion victims

LTN Staff Reports

Lincoln County residents will have the opportunity today to meet a reality show celebrity while simultaneously raising money for both injured first-responders and the families of victims who were killed in this month’s fatal fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas.

Tim Smith, star of the Discovery Channel’s television series “Moonshiners” and fire chief of Climax Fire Department in Climax, Va., will be on-hand at the Denver Fire Department to take donations, according to an agency press release.

The deadly blaze claimed the lives of more than a dozen people and injured at least 200 fire and EMS personnel on Wednesday.

Denver is just one of several cities Smith is visiting as part of a fundraising tour from Virginia to Texas.

Smith’s goal is to raise immediate funds that those affected by the tragedy can utilize while waiting for insurance and other government benefits to kick in.

The meet and greet with Smith will be from 4-5 p.m. today at the Denver Fire Department’s headquarters.
