Joe Lee Turbyfill
STANLEY — Mr. Joe Lee Turbyfill, age 79, of 173 Cowans Ford Road in Stanley, died on Monday, April 8, 2013.
His funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Denver United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Johnsen officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. this evening at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton.
Mr. Turbyfill was born July 28, 1933 in Avery County to the late Everett and Annie Greer Turbyfill. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Turbyfill Wilde and Angie Weatherly, and a brother, Billy Gene Turbyfill.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Jean Austin Turbyfill of the home; sons, Terry Turbyfill and Debbie Green of Stanley, and Larry Turbyfill and wife Bobbie of Denver; brother, Earl Turbyfill and wife Mary of Charlotte; sisters, Lillian Turnmire of Lenoir, Anna Willis and husband Tom of Stanley, and Nancy Turbyfill of Cornelius; grandchildren, Josh Turbyfill and Avery Turbyfill, both of Kings Mountain, and Lewis Turbyfill and Amy Turbyfill, both of Denver.
Mr. Turbyfill was the owner of Turbyfill True Value Hardware for 35 years. After retiring in 2010, he was able to travel to areas he wanted to. He enjoyed being with people, listening to music and dancing and was an avid Duke basketball fan. In addition, he was voted Small Business Person of the Year in 2002.

Louzell Willis Wehunt
VALE — Mrs. Louzell Willis Wehunt, 96, of 6827 Fairview School Road, passed away on Sunday April 7, 2013 at Brian Health & Retirement Center, Lincolnton.
Mrs. Wehunt was born in Lincoln County on November 30, 1916 she was the daughter of the late J. Clayton Willis and Ava Wehunt Willis. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Loy Wood Wehunt.
Survivors include two sons, Lanny Wehunt and Ronald Wehunt and wife Elizabeth of Vale; three daughters, Dorothy Pearson of Cherryville, Shirley Hicks of Greensboro, and Rita Black and husband John H. Black Jr. of Vale; two grandchildren, Ava Roxanne Stritt and husband Kerry of Atlanta, and Angela Hicks and fiancé Mark Sarnecki of Greensboro; and two great grandchildren, Tyler A. Stritt and Alexandra Stritt of Atlanta, Ga., and niece/cousin Barbara Wehunt Davis of Cherryville.
The family will received friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday April 9, 2013 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home, 405 N. Dixie Street, Cherryville, NC. At other times the family was at the home of John and Rita Black, 6791 Fairview School Road, Vale.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Fallston with Pastor Marcus Redding officiating.

Martha Moore Abernethy
VALE — Martha Moore Abernethy, age 92, of Vale, died on Sunday, April 7, 2013.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. today at Daniels Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. today in the fellowship building.
Mrs. Abernethy was born May 10, 1920 in Forsyth County to the late Alverdo and Effie Dellinger Moore. She graduated from Lincolnton High School and attended business school. Mrs. Abernethy was employed for many years with the ASCS Office of Lincolnton and worked over 21 years with the former First National Bank and Carolina First National Bank of Lincolnton. She served as church treasurer, choir and taught Sunday school at Daniels Reformed Church. As a member of Daniels Lutheran Church of Lincolnton, she served on committees, circles and choir. She was a former member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, Lincoln County Historical Assoc., and Lincoln County Home Extension Service. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, and received first place honors in state and local awards in home extension areas for her achievements in seamstress design. Martha and her late husband of 68 years, Robert F. Abernethy Sr., loved to fellowship with neighbors and enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by a son, Robert F. Abernethy Jr. and wife Betty of Rolesville; a daughter, Kathryn A. Wise and husband Dr. Robert Wise of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Vann Abernethy of Rolesville, Malinda Gantt and husband Geety of Lincolnton, Dr. Neil Abernethy of Seattle, Wash., Billy Perry of Rolesville, and Rev. Rob Wise and wife Katie of Lincolnton; three great-grandchildren, Grace Gantt of Lincolnton and Kenton and Thomas Abernethy of Rolesville; a sister, Kathryn M. Alexander of Cherryville; and numerous nieces and nephew.

Robert Mack Costea Sr.
Robert Mack Costea Sr., 62, of Lincolnton passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, after a lengthy battle with neuromyelitis optica (Devic’s disease).
He is survived by his wife, Karen Cavender Costea, and children, Robert Mack Costea Jr., 15, and Ana Maria Costea, 14, all of the home.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, Hwy. 150 East in Lincolnton. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Costea Family Fund at NC State Employees Credit Union (Acct #61236879) or to Hospice and Palliative Care – Charlotte Region.
