The North Lincoln Lady Knights varsity softball team handed South Point its first loss of the season with a 5-2 decision in the second round of Cherryville’s Easter Softball Tournament.
North Lincoln senior Payton Bruce plated the first two runs of the game with a double in the top of the first. Gabby Solomita led off the game by reaching first on a bunt and moving to third on a South Point throwing error. Sidney Russell reached first on another misplayed ball and both Russell and Solomita scored on Bruce’s hit.
Jayden Maddox drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a sacrifice by Mallory Bolen. Bruce scored on a passed ball during Shauna Griffin’s at-bat, which ended in a strikeout.
South Point got no closer after a two-run single by Summer Davila in the bottom of the third.
Russell scored Griffin with a double in the top of the sixth for a 4-2 North Lincoln lead. Hollyn Franklin earned an RBI with a single in the top of the seventh.
Franklin pitched a complete game for North Lincoln with six strikeouts, four walks and six hits.
