Staff Writer

Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives are on the hunt for a man they said used a fake credit card with a working number to rack up fees earlier this month at stores in Lincoln and Mecklenburg Counties.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to help them search for the Hispanic male, described as being in his late 20s or early 30s, 5-foot-10 and weighing roughly 165 pounds, an agency press release said.

The man is accused of using the counterfeit card, “embedded with a valid credit card number,” March 8 at the Lincolnton Dollar General to buy three gift cards and two phone cards worth more than $1,400, deputies said.

The victim reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Office five days later.

Those who recognize the man, recorded by Dollar General surveillance, is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (704) 736-8856 or Crime Stoppers at (704) 736-8909.

Any tips leading to an arrest may receive a reward of up to $1,000, and tips may remain anonymous.
