Deputies arrested two Lincoln County men this week and accused each of separate sex-related incidents involving children, including the rape of a family member, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Detective Dan Renn charged 31-year-old Neely Marvin Bigham, of 240 Mel Lane in Crouse, on Monday with two felony counts of first-degree statutory sexual offense.
Bigham, who now sits under a $200,000 secured bond in the county jail, sexually assaulted a five-year-old girl, whom he knew, deputies said.
The incidents took place on more than one occasion from December through February, according to an agency press release.
The Major Crimes Unit initiated an investigation last month after the victim’s family reported the alleged crimes to the Sheriff’s Office, the release said.
In an unrelated case, the Sheriff’s Office said an eastern Lincoln County man raped a female family member for many of her childhood years.
Deputies said they jailed Jeffrey Marshall Sempler, 58, of 4848 Maralane Trail in Denver, on Friday after they learned he had sexual relations with the victim from the time she was six years old until 14.
The alleged incidents took place while the two lived in New York and continued after they moved to Lincoln County, a news release said.
The victim is now an adult and told local Sheriff’s detectives she was sexually abused and raped nearly a decade ago.
Sempler has been charged with four different felony offenses including one count each of second-degree rape, second-degree sexual offense and indecent liberties with a child along with two counts of sexual offense intercourse by guardian.
An investigation is ongoing, and deputies said they will notify New York authorities of any details that emerge involving sex crimes there.
Sempler is currently being held under a $250,000 secured bond.
