A Lincolnton man has been accused of involvement in a sex-related incident with a 13-year-old girl last year, police said.

Detectives charged Robert Andrew Wehunt, 30, of 103 Neighborhood Street, on Sunday with one felony count of indecent liberties with a child, according to a report.

Wehunt lives less than 500 feet from a Lincolnton daycare, The KidsPlace, Inc., located at 1040 State Road 1263.

The incident took place at the suspect’s residence on Dec. 15, Det. Dennis Harris told the Times-News on Monday.

Police learned of the alleged act in January after Department of Social Services contacted them, Harris said.

The victim first revealed the details to a friend, who police said urged the teen to tell an authority about the incident. Police said the victim then told her primary caretaker, her grandma, who called DSS.
