Miss Abigail Grace Hendrick, of Shelby, passed away March 6, 2013 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County she was a daughter of Jerry Keith Hendrick Jr. and Stephanie Marie Gantt Hendrick of Shelby.
In addition to her parents she is survived by her sister, Allyson Marie Gantt of the home; grandparents, Keith and Debbie Hendrick of Shelby, Kenneth and Sherry Gantt of Lincolnton, and Rick and Lynda Thurman of Vale; great-grandparents, Sam and Becky Proctor of Shelby, Don and Joyce Tesinear of Lawndale, and Gene and Marie Gantt of Lincolnton; and great-great-grandmother, Francis Putnam of Shelby.
A private memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.

John Laban Burgin Sr.,
Mr. John Laban Burgin Sr., 72, of North Grove Street in Lincolnton, died on Friday, March 8, 2013.
A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Hollybrook Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Stanley Spence officiating. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on March 10, 2013 at the funeral home.
Mr. Burgin was born December 4, 1940 in Lincoln County to the late Thomas Jacob Burgin Sr. and Mildred Mitchum Burgin. Mr. Burgin was self-employed.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Craig Burgin; two sons, Todd Burgin and wife Candy of Lincolnton, and John Burgin Jr. of Waxhaw; grandson, Kyle Burgin; one sister, Joannah Harbinson of Maiden; brothers, Tom Burgin, Rodney Burgin, and David Burgin all of Lincolnton, and Bill Dameron of Taylorsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Timmy Dale Brooks Sr.
Mr. Timmy Dale Brooks Sr., age 48, of 1037 Hollow Oak Lane in Lincolnton, died on Friday, March 8, 2013.
His funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on this evening at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Brooks was born March 9, 1964 in Lincoln County to the Bobby Lee Brooks and the late Jennette Richards Brooks. He worked as a machine operator.
He is survived by his wife, Kristinia Carpenter Brooks of the home; two sons, Ronnie Dale Brooks and Timmy Dale Brooks Jr., both of Lincolnton; one step-son, Timothy Dennis Belton of Lincolnton; one daughter, Elizabeth Dale Brooks of Lincolnton; one step-daughter, Heather Michelle Knight of Gastonia; one brother, Bobby Eugene Brooks of Iron Station; one half-brother, Terry Lee Brooks of Iron Station; two half-sisters, Shirley Ann Byers of Hickory and Tina Gail Brooks of Shelby; father, Bobby Lee Brooks of Lincolnton; grandmother, Lois Goins Brooks of Lincolnton; eleven grandchildren; three uncles; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Willard Calvin Leatherman
Mr. Willard Calvin Leatherman, age 86, of 4218 Leatherman Road in Vale, died on Friday, March 8, 2013.
His funeral service will be 3 p.m. today at Macedonia Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Jerry Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service. Visitation was from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Leatherman was born June 28, 1926 in Lincoln County to the late Ernest Leatherman and Rosie Elizabeth Kerley. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Hester Mae Hubbard Leatherman; a daughter, Patricia L. Owensby, and one granddaughter.
He is survived by three sons, Dennis Calvin Leatherman, Arland Lee Leatherman, and Darrell Wayne Leatherman, all of Vale; three daughters, Pamela L. Smith of Vale, Carolyn L. Stamey of Denver, and Barbara L. Hopper of Vale; one sister, Virginia Hendrix of Brushy Mount; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Ada Christine Sigmon Sherrill
Ada Christine Sigmon Sherrill, widow of Monroe Thomas Sherrill, crossed over Jordan to be with Jesus on March 8, 2013. Mrs. Sherrill was born in Catawba County on April 11, 1927 to the late Leroy P. and Vassie R. Sigmon. She was the youngest of a family that included five brothers, W. Alexander, Coley P., Daniel M., Calvin L., and Kermit M. Sigmon and a sister, Helen S. White.
After graduating from Sherrills Ford High School in 1944, she attended Pfeiffer College in Charlotte then worked at various jobs until she retired at age of 70. Her favorite job was that of a first grade teacher’s assistant at Rock Spring’s Elementary School.
Mrs. Sherrill married her “big man,” Monroe on February 16, 1946 and moved to their home in Denver where they lived together until he passed away in September of 2012. She looked well to the ways of her household and was an excellent cook and seamstress.
In her spare time she enjoyed singing and playing the piano, working in her yard, and going to yard sales. Her love of reading instilled a passion for books in her children and
grandchildren. She served the Lord by always being ready and willing to help anyone in need. This usually included one of her famous chicken pies.
Mrs. Sherrill was part of the body of believers at Beth Haven Baptist Church for over 40 years where she served as a nursery worker, a Sunday school teacher and as a member of the choir.
She is survived by her four daughters, Sandra Auton (Bud), Sheila Benfield (Gary), Tracy Painter (Ray) and Donna Henderson; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Beverly Arrowood and her six siblings.
The daughters would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Sherrill’s dedicated caregivers, Peggy Arrowood, Shirley Beatty, Gladys Campos and Mildred Whitman. They would also like to thank the excellent staff at the Palliative Care Center of Catawba County.
The family will receive friends at Beth Haven Baptist Church beginning at 1:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. today. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. with burial in the church cemetery.

Norma Sue Rhyne Johnson
Norma Sue Rhyne Johnson, age 88, of Will Schronce Road in Iron Station, died on Friday, March 8, 2013.
Her funeral service will be noon today at Pearl Baptist Church with Rev. Malcomb Ivey and Rev. William Wease officiating. Burial will follow in Iron Station Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:45 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of Wayne Johnson, 3046 Lee Lawing Road in Lincolnton.
Mrs. Johnson was born May 2, 1924 in Gaston County to the late Lemuel Shuford and Eva Rankin Rhyne. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Elliott Johnson; a brother, Donald Eugene Rhyne and sisters, Thelma Abernathy, Odessa Mauney and Polly Flowers; and a grandson, Kevin Johnson. Mrs. Johnson worked in textiles.
She is survived by two sons, Tommy Keith Johnson and wife Frances of Charlotte and Wayne S. Johnson and wife Margaret of Lincolnton; one daughter, Ann Johnson Ballard and husband Stan of Cherryville; one brother, George E. Rhyne of Gastonia; one sister, Katherine Green of Alexis; six grandchildren, Jeff Johnson and wife Lori, Keith Johnson, Jennifer Heavner and husband Damon, Allyson Boyle and husband Steve, Brian Johnson and wife Molly, and Olivia Austin; and five great-grandchildren, Kelly, Anie, Makayla and Sarah Johnson and Erika Boyle.

Mrs. Linda Sue Thomas Richard, age 70, of Del-Mar Road Lincolnton passed away on March 8, 2013 at Carolina Medical Center Charlotte.
Mrs. Richard was a native of Gaston County born on April 24, 1942, daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Gibson Thomas. She was preceded in death by two brothers Bruce Thomas and Michael Thomas. Mrs. Richard worked in the textile industry before retiring.
Survivors include husband of 45years, Amberse C. Richard of the home; one son, Joey Richard of the home; one daughter, Donna Keever of Iron Station; two brothers, Danny Thomas of Okla., Tony Thomas of Maiden; two sisters, Bobbie Black of Lincolnton, and Nancy Grigg of Iron Station; one grandson, Joshua Jones.
