Helen Carolyn Williams Benfield
Mrs. Helen Carolyn Benfield age 77 of 480 McAlister Road Lincolnton passed away on February 27, 2013.
Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Wayne Brittan officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton.
Mrs. Benfield was born on December 8, 1935, a native of Catawba County daughter of the late Arthur and Mamie Canipe Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Benfield and one son Randy Long. Mrs. Benfield worked in the textile industry before retiring.
Survivors include; one son, Jimmy Long and wife Melissa of Lincolnton; one daughter, Elizabeth L. Piedlow of Lincolnton; one brother, Bob Williams of Lincolnton; four sisters, Elizabeth Wehunt of Vale, Barbara Wood of Lincolnton, Peggy Jean weathers of Denver, and Ruth Warlick of Newton; eight grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren.

Elizabeth Hawkins Bumgarner
WILSON — Elizabeth “Lib” Hawkins Bumgarner passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 24, 2013, after celebrating her 90th birthday surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 311 Nash St W, Wilson. Visitation was from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery.
Lib was predeceased by her beloved husband, L. H. “Shike” Bumgarner, in 1996. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Darlene Bumgarner, Mike and Cheryl Bumgarner of Wilson, and Tony and Debbie Bumgarner of Wade; grandchildren, Donna and Don Slaven of Maineville, Ohio, Christine and Chuck Sinnermon of Woodstock, Ga., Scott and Allyson Bumgarner of Wilson, Lisa Bumgarner of Raleigh, Chris and Aaron Bumgarner and Kelly and John Revels of Fayetteville, Jeffrey Bumgarner of Clover, Va., Brandon and Morgan Cobb of Wilson, Kristen and Ryan Honeycutt of Lewisville; great-grandchildren Angela and Ryan Perry of Dallas, Ga., Kayla Slaven of Maineville, Ohio, Bailey and Claire Bumgarner of Wilson, River Revels of Fayetteville, Benjamin and Emmalyn Cobb of Wilson, Kate and Harper Honeycutt of Lewisville; great-great grandchild, Adalyn Elizabeth Perry of Dallas, Ga. Also surviving are sisters Colleen Rhyne of Lincolnton and Carolyn Myers Sloan of Raleigh; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friend and devoted caregiver, Alice Browder. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Johnsie Fowler; brothers, Fred Hawkins and Coleman Hawkins; niece Peggy Garner.
Lib was born to Anna and Joe Hawkins in Lincolnton on February 25, 1923. She delighted in following her Lord and Savior by helping those less fortunate and devoted her time and energy to nurturing and caring for others. She enjoyed over 20 years as a compassionate Hospice of Wilson volunteer and was recognized as Volunteer of the Year in 1993. She also dedicated her time to the After School Program at First Baptist Church, Meals on Wheels, and the Red Cross Blood Drive. She is fondly remembered by her family and many friends as a wonderful cook and entertainer with a great wit.

Leona Loucynthia Helton Campbell
Iron Station — Leona Loucynthia Helton Campbell, age 85 of Iron Station passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at CMC- Lincoln. She was born January 30, 1928 in Lincoln County to the late Lonnie Helton and Edna Sherrill Helton Sisk.
She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the Prayer Shaw Ministry.
She is survived by four daughters, Patricia Campbell Pepper and her husband Dean, Barbara Campbell Robinson, Jan Campbell Hunnicutt and her husband Samuel, and Pam Campbell Anderson and her husband Gary, all of Iron Station; one son, Roger Eugene Campbell of Iron Station; five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; two brothers, Avery Sisk and Ott Sisk of Lincolnton; two sisters, Ruby Shook of Claremont and Shirley Sisk of Lincolnton.
Services will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 1 p.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Pumpkin Center. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The interment will be at Forest Lawn West in Charlotte.

Patsy Long Crump, 65, of 2515 Swanson Road in Crouse, died on Tuesday, February 26, 2013.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rev. J.V. Allen officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
Mrs. Crump was born July 17, 1947 in Lincoln County to the late J.D. and Elizabeth Faulkenbury Long. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Carol Jones. She loved to cook and garden. Mrs. Crump worked in grocery.
She is survived by her husband, Allen Crump of the home; three sons, Mike Crump and wife Norma of Lincolnton, Jeff Crump and wife Kathy of Crouse, and Eric Crump and wife Teresa of Lincolnton; and a brother, Jerry Long of Lincolnton.

STANLEY—Thelma Luckey Hager, 93, passed away on Tuesday February 26, 2013 surrounded by her family. Thelma was born on July 3, 1919 in Lincoln County to the late Hattie Duckworth Luckey and Lloyd Luckey. Thelma retired from Union Carbide after 30 plus years of service. She was a longtime devoted member of Salem United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Norris Hager and her beloved daughter Dianne H. Alexander, 4 brothers Bennie Luckey, John B. Luckey, Willie Luckey and Charles Lindberg Luckey, 2 sisters Janet Stewart and Pansy McCorkle.
She is survived by her son in law Gary Alexander of Stanley; sisters Vira Mae Abernathy of Mount Holly, Catherine Masters of Denver, and Shirley Murray and husband Gary of Shelby. Thelma also leaves to cherish her memory 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; Mark Alexander and wife Mary of Oxford, Trina Gantt and husband Jimmy of Stanley, and Timmy Alexander and wife Heather of Stanley, Dayton and Madison Alexander of Oxford, Drew and Lauren Gantt of Stanley, and Gunner Alexander of Stanley.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Hager will be held at 4 p.m. today at Salem United Methodist Church with Reverend David Hobson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:30 p.m. today at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. George Henry “Cricket” Powell, age 82, of 147 Hillside Drive in Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, February 27, 2013.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Wes Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 12:30 p.m. today at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Powell was born June 14, 1930 in Martinsville, Va. to the late Gid Owen Powell, Sr. and Sallie Chandler Powell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Powell and a son, Reggie Powell. Mr. Powell worked as a supervisor in textiles and as a security guard at Timken.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Inman Powell of the home; two sons, Steve Powell and wife Elizabeth, Joey Powell and wife Patricia, all of Lincolnton; a step-daughter, Mary Ruth Black and husband Mike of Denver; one brother, Buck Powell of Martinsville, Va.; one sister, June Wehunt of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and his loving pet, GiGi.
