Mustangs advance to third round of playoffs with 74-43 win

The East Lincoln Mustangs boys varsity basketball team took a 74-43 win over the Mountain Heritage Cougars in the second round of the 2A state playoffs on Wednesday in Denver.
The No. 4 Mustangs advance to the third-round sectional championship game against the No. 1 Smoky Mountain Mustangs (25-3) today at 7 p.m. in Sylva.
East Lincoln (21-7) freshman Chazz Surratt scored a game-high 22 points on Wednesday.
Junior Domonique Smith added 18 points and was 3-6 from 3-point range. Junior Charlie Hills scored nine points with 10 rebounds.
East Lincoln led 25-18 at halftime and outscored Mountain Heritage 32-19 in the fourth quarter to take the win.
Avery Austin led Mountain Heritage (19-10) with 11 points.
The winner of today’s game advances to the West Regional championship game against either No. 2 Shelby (25-3) or No. 3 East Burke (24-5).
