William ‘Smokey’ Furr
William ‘Smokey’ Furr, 92, of Lincolnton passed away on February 20, 2013.
He was a Navy Veteran, Country music singer, song writer, beloved father and grandfather. His favorite past times were gardening, playing his guitar and singing. He was loved by all who met him, a hard working honest man.
He is preceded in death by son, Billy Furr.
He leaves behind three sons, Daniel Furr of Lincolnton, Tom Aikin (Kathy) of Lawndale, James Aikin (Cathy) of Lyons, N.Y.; three granddaughters, Patricia Hardin, Heather Aikin and Susanne Swann; great grandchildren, James, Donovan, Ariel, Riley, Lisa and Kelly as well as many nieces and nephews.
Private services performed by Cremation Society of Charlotte.
DENVER — Judy Haddix, 50, of Denver passed away suddenly on February 21, 2013. Born on March 27, 1962 in Germany, she was the daughter of Helga K. Haddix and the late James E. Haddix. Judy worked at Verdict Ridge Country Club in Denver and formerly at Phillips 73 General Store in Huntersville. She loved her friends and animals.
Besides her mother, Judy is survived by her brother, Gardner Richard Haddix of Denver; aunt and uncle Karen and Bill Reynolds of Denver; cousins Ronnie Reynolds and Sandy Wagner.
A Celebration of Judy’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Salem United Methodist Church, 378 N. Pilot Knob Road, Denver, NC 28037. Pastor David Hobson will officiate. Family will receive friends following the service. Burial will take place in the family cemetery in Jackson, Ky.

Martha Polk Ramsey
Martha Polk Ramsey, age 79, of 973 Royal Drive in Lincolnton, died on Sunday, February 24, 2013.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Boger City Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Bigham officiating. Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Ramsey was born January 3, 1934 in Gaston County to the late Thomas Brady and Eula Kezziah Polk. She worked in food service. Martha was a member of Boger City Baptist Church for 20 years where she participated in the Golden Voices and the church choir. She also enjoyed crafts, working puzzles, and reading.
She is survived by her husband, W. Gordon Ramsey of the home; a son, John Wayne Ramsey and wife Debra of Matthews; three daughters, Donna Henson and husband Tony of Belmont, Nancy Watt and husband Lee and Pamela Jordan, all of Rock Hill; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Nell Frances Powell Richard, 76, of Vale passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013 at her residence.
Born June 4, 1936 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Yates and Annie Haynes Powell. Mrs. Richard loved to travel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Gantt.
Survivors include her spouse of 61 years, Joseph Richard; sons, Larry Richard and wife Sharrian of Crouse, Joseph G. Richard Jr. of Statesville, Yates Alexander Richard of Newport, Tenn.; daughters, Kathy R. Beaver and husband Karl of Vale, J. Renee Cook of Vale, and Lori A. Love and husband Lane of Charlotte; brother, Max Powell of Vale; sisters, Jeanette Black of Crouse, Brenda Willis and husband Eddie of Cherryville; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vale. Rev. John Locke will officiate.
