Sheriff’s Office: RSI worker died after he became caught in a saw
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has released the name and cause of death of a man accidentally killed while working Saturday morning at a cabinet-manufacturing plant on the county’s northern end.
Marendonio Francisco Viruel Lopez, 35, of 1007 Grazing Meadows Ct. in Lincolnton, suffered traumatic injuries just before 8:30 a.m. at RSI Home Products’ plant #2 on Lincoln County Parkway after an agency press release said he “became caught in a Holzman Angular saw.”
Deputies said the victim, who had been working the last eight years under a fake name, was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center-Lincoln, where he later died from his injuries.
Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) is conducting an ongoing investigation into the fatality.
