Willie Mae Ballard
Willie Mae Ballard, age 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 18, 2013. She resided at the Brian Center in Lincolnton.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. today followed by a celebration service at 3 p.m. at Covenant Bible Church followed by a graveside service at Hollybrook Cemetery.
Ms. Ballard was born on March 30, 1922 to the late Charlie Hudson and Junie Gilbert Hudson. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her beloved husband, E.T. Ballard; son, Ronald Gene Ballard; sisters, Blonnie Hudson, Velma Hudson Peeler, Jessie Hudson Smith, Georgie Hudson Beam; as well as brothers, Fred Hudson and Leck Hudson.
Ms. Ballard graduated from North Brook number three school in Vale and then attended Business College. Following Business College, she was employed by Carolina Freight Carriers, though she retired as co-owner of Ballard’s Car Town in Lincolnton.
Ms. Ballard was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and without question had a “green thumb” which brought enjoyment to many. In addition to gardening, her main joy was her faith, reading the Bible, and family. She loved the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The Ballard’s attended Community Pentecostal Center in Stanley for many years and later she attended Covenant Bible Church in Lincolnton.
Ms. Ballard is survived by one daughter, Suzette Grooms and husband Nathan; four grandchildren, Shawn Ballard and wife April, Aaron Grooms and wife Lori, Amber Grooms Mincey and husband Marty, and Andrew Grooms and wife Amber; seven great-grandchildren, Alicia Ballard, Davis and Luke Grooms, Rachel and Blake Mincey, and Hudson and Harrison Grooms; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at the Brian Center for exceptional care as well as the support of Hospice.

Charles Andrew Brandeburg
Charles Andrew Brandeburg, 82, of Lincolnton, formerly of Jacksonville, Fla. died February 3, 2013. He was born in Charleroi, Pa. to Charles Albert Brandeburg and Mary Matjashofsky Brandeburg. He joined the Navy after high school in 1949 and ended his career by being an attaché to Embassy in Rome, Italy.
His wife Frances predeceased him in October, 2008. They were married for 45 years. They moved to Lincolnton in January 2008 from Jacksonville, Fla.
His family consisted of two step-children, Sonia Richards and husband Gary of Lincolnton, Kenneth Morrow and his wife Bess, of Auburndale, Fla.; four grandchildren, Robert ‘Robbie’ Varney of Lincolnton and his wife Gerry, John Varney (deceased), Ann Greco and her husband Bob of Lakeland, Fla., James Morrow and his wife Melissa of Lakeland, Fla.; great grandchildren, Jessica Varney of Titusville, Fla., Angela Varney of Cocoa, Fla., Christina Varney of Cocoa, Fla., Tristan Varney of Lincolnton, Christopher Henderson of Lakeland, Fla.; great-great grandchildren, Jason Varney, Alexia Varney, Bella Varney of Titusville, Fla., Charli Morrow, Danica Morrow, Gabriel Morrow (deceased) of Lakeland, Fla.
Receiving of family and friends will be held 12 noon on February 22, 2013 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Lincolnton with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m.
William ‘Bill’ Albert Mitchell
William “Bill” Albert Mitchell, born September 20, 1921 in Davie County passed away February 16, 2013 in Dallas, Tex.
Bill was preceded in death by father, Floyd Mitchell; mother, Mary Beck; and sister, Era Mae Conner.
Survived by his loving family are wife, Norma J. Mitchell; daughter, Donna J. Mitchell; son, William A. Mitchell Jr.; grandchildren, Cristina Kenny, Sara Riccio, and Jonathan Black; great-grandson, Theodore Kenny; sisters, Eloise Pratt, Polly Foster, Helen Peoples; and brother, Floyd “Mitch” Mitchell.

Known to family and friends as “Bill”, William A. Mitchell will be dearly missed. He was a man of great integrity and compassion. After proudly serving his country for 30 years as a Marine, First Sergeant, he had a successful 20-year career as a corporate executive with Pitney Bowes. Bill and his beloved “Bride” Norma retired to Lake Norman outside of Charlotte, where they were active in their local community’s clubs, church, and politics. During their 64-year marriage, Bill and Norma enjoyed traveling, raising and riding horses, golfing, and boating. In 2010, the Mitchells moved back moved to Dallas, Tex. to be near family.
Wade “Jim” Gabriel, 93, of Catawba died February 19, 2013.
A funeral service will be held on February 21, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church, Catawba. The family will receive friends on February 21, 2013 from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church, prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Julia Beatrice Campbell Beal, 87, of Newton died February 19, 2013.
A funeral service will be held on February 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, Claremont. Burial will follow at Maiden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends February 22, 2013 from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the church, prior to the service.

Gary Allen Hamilton, 63, of Bessemer City died January 15, 2013.
