James Sylvester McGinnis
MT. HOLLY — Mr. James Sylvester McGinnis, age 73 of 104 N. McGinnis Place in Mt. Holly passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Cardinal Health Care in Lincolnton.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Webbs Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathie Sherrill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. McGinnis was born in Gaston County on September 29, 1939 to the late James Otis “Ott” and Roxanna Pryor McGinnis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Judy Elizabeth Cagle McGinnis and two brothers, Tony Dale McGinnis and George “Bucky” McGinnis. Mr. McGinnis was retired from textiles where he worked as a warehouse supervisor. He was a Charter Member of the South Point Life Saving Crew.
Survivors include one son, Jamie McGinnis and wife Amy of Denver; two brothers, Ronnie McGinnis and wife MaryAnn of Mt. Holly, Robert McGinnis and wife Carla of Leesville, S.C.; two sisters, Frances Wise and husband Papo of Mt. Holly and Delores Harwood of Mt. Holly; one granddaughter Addie McGinnis of Denver; 40 nieces and nephews.

STANLEY — James Robert Edwards, age 66, of Stanley passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at his residence.
Born January 1, 1947 in Florence Co., S.C., he was the son of the late James A. Edwards and the late Annie Mell James Edwards. James was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Maiden; a Vietnam Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 266.
In addition to his parents, a brother, Kenneth Edwards and sister, Shelby Jean Edwards Matthews, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Linda Edwards of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, James, Jr. and Brooke Edwards of Lexington, S.C., Gene and Judy Hester of Arden, Dale and Trina Hester of Vale; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry James and Theo Myers of Fredericksburg, Va, Tonya and Henry Hutto of Swansea, S.C., Angie and Greg King of Belton, S.C.; brother, James Arthur Edwards, Jr. of Columbia, S.C; special stepchildren, Pat Watford, Jimmy Watford, Kammy Jo Benton; fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church in Maiden with Rev. Bud Painter officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery with graveside honors by American Legion Post 16 of Newton.
The family will receive friends, prior to the service, from 1 until 1:45 p.m. at the church.

Carolyn Byers Gilbert
Carolyn Byers Gilbert, age 86, of 812 S. Madison Street in Lincolnton, died on Tuesday, February 12, 2013.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013 in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kathy McAbee officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Gilbert was born July 17, 1926 in Catawba County to the late J.T. and Idella Leonard Byers. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gilbert, a son, Robbie Gilbert, two brothers, Wendel Byers and Alton Byers, and sisters, Loyce Dellinger, Janet Schronce, and Conette Heavner. She was a long-time member of Rhyne Height United Methodist Church. Carolyn was the owner and operator of Carolyn’s Beauty Shop for over sixty years.
She is survived by a son, Gregory Gilbert of Lincolnton; three sisters, Elaine Hartman of Cherryville, Phyllis Hovis of Chapin, S.C., and Barbara Drumm of Mt. Holly.

CHERRYVILLE — Bobbie Childers, 89, entered into eternal peace on Friday, February 8, 2013. Bobbie was born on March 10, 1923 in Gaston County. She was a daughter of the late Junius Clyde Helms and Rebecca Dellinger Helms.
She graduated from Cherryville High School in 1941 where she was a member and captain of the Girls Basketball Team. In 1945, shortly after World War II, she married Mr. Norris S. Childers and together they raised a family of four sons. Bobbie was a lifelong member of Bess Chapel Church where she was active in the choir. In 1973, she received the honor of being named Lincoln County’s Woman of the Year. She was always a happy soul who had a smile for everyone she met. Bobbie enjoyed playing canasta with her friends, working with the Home Demonstration Club and volunteering with the meals on wheels program.
Bobbie is survived by her sons Kelly (Jill), Doug, Todd (Jennifer), Kip (Stacy); Grandchildren, Brooke (Ted), Katy (Jonathan); and Great-grandchildren Jackson and Harper.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, Norris; her parents, JC and Rebecca; brothers and sisters, Paul, JC, Mable, Inez, Jim, Aileen, Jackie, and Frankie.

Mrs. Jones was born January 28, 1930 to the late Kimmie Hull Henson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Larry Jones. She worked in textiles.
She is survived by two sons, Bobby Jones and wife Robin of Lincolnton and Wayne Jones and wife Brenda of Grover; one daughter, Teresa Jones and fiance Kenny Hardison of Maiden; one brother, Jack Hull and wife Becky of Lincolnton; six grandchildren, Misty Dellinger Bryant, David Dellinger, Jeremy Jones, Clay Jones, Allison Jones, and D.J. Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Kailey Young, Caleb Jones, and Alyssa Smith.
