Baseball fans in Lincoln County don’t have long to wait before they can watch their favorite local teams in action.
The regular season begins in two weeks and high school teams are holding their first official full-team practices today.
But that window doesn’t leave much time for local coaches to prepare their players.
“We’re going to practice and scrimmage for the first two weeks and then in the third week of the season we’re going to play games,” Lincolnton head coach Cole Sigmon said. “And at the end of that third week you’ll probably have a conference game. Hopefully the kids have been throwing because if they haven’t we’re going to be behind.”
The Wolves will open practice today, weather permitting, by gauging its personnel needs.
“We’ll have regular tryouts,” Sigmon said. “We’ll evaluate talent for three to five days then we’ll make cuts and start rounding our team out.”
