Deputies: Sex offender was inside local middle school
A Lincoln County sex offender appeared in court today on charges he illegally went to a local middle school with his wife to pick up a student last month.
Michael Wayne Perry, 58, of 2793 Wingtip Court in Iron Station, went inside East Lincoln Middle School on Jan. 31, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release.
The alleged incident violated Perry’s sex offender status, and he was arrested Tuesday, deputies said.
He was placed under a $5,000 secured bond and charged with one felony count of sex offender at or near child premises, the release said.
Perry spent two decades in prison for second-degree rape in Franklin County in 1977, according to the North Carolina Department of Correction website.
Det. Jon Propst is credited with the arrest.
