The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and State Bureau of Investigation have teamed up to investigate allegations that a former nurse at Carolinas Medical Center-Lincoln stole prescription pills from the hospital earlier this year.

The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the Gaston County woman’s name at this time, according to Public Information Officer Larry Seagle.

The nurse worked on the hospital’s second floor and allegedly stole Dilaudid pills, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The drug is a powerful morphine-derived narcotic used to treat pain.

Hospital officials contacted the local law enforcement agency about the incident earlier this month.

Charges have yet to be filed at this time, Seagle said, but will be issued once the investigation concludes. A Lincoln County drug investigator is assisting the SBI on the case.

In addition, Seagle told the Times-News that the investigation is expected to go back at least six months.
