The West Lincoln Rebels’ win streak in conference wrestling tournaments spans the better part of two decades with one loss and one cancellation due to bad weather since 1996.
The team extended that streak further by finishing in first place in this year’s Southern Piedmont 1A/2A Conference wrestling tournament held on the Rebels’ home mat on Saturday.
Lincolnton finished in second place, East Lincoln finished third, Cherryville finished fourth and North Lincoln finished last.
The Rebels had five first-place finishers in individual weight classes. Hunter Carpenter took the top spot in the 113-lb. division, Ivan McCormick took first in the 132-lb. division, Clay Alguire finished first at 138 lbs., Dalton Scronce took first at 182 lbs. and Mack George took first at 195 lbs.
“All of my boys wrestled well,” West Lincoln head coach Butch Ross said. “We had five champions and all of them had good days. Even the ones that came in second wrestled tough.”
Lincolnton had first-place finishers in Quentin Weinrank (106 lbs.), Nolan Schrum (220 lbs.) and Hunter Cline (285 lbs.).
James Daniel (126 lbs.), Moses Boyter (145 lbs.) and Jeremy Tarleton (170 lbs.) all finished in first place in their weight divisions for East Lincoln.
