VALE — Everette James Cook, age 72, of Vale passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Kindred Nursing and Rehab of Lincolnton.
Born November 7, 1940 in Cleveland Co., he was the son of the late John Wesley Cook and the late Mary Lee White Cook. In addition to his parents, three brothers preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife, Millie Heffner Cook of the home; two daughters, Ginger Miller and husband, Henry of Catawba, Barbara Watts of Iron Station; five grandchildren, Amanda, Brittany, Jessie, Jake, Aaron; five great grandchildren, Chandler, Axel, Emma, Mason, Chloe; two brothers, J.C. Cook and Ralph Cook.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel, Maiden with Rev. Ernie Richards officiating. The family will receive friends, prior to the service, from 5 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary Ruth Homesley Mundy
CHERRYVILLE — Mrs. Mary Ruth Homesley Mundy, age 88, of 515 Generals Blvd., Lincolnton, formerly of Cherryville, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at her residence. Mary Ruth was born on February 19, 1924, the daughter of the late Amos Pinkney Homesley Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth Farris Homesley, she was a Cherryville High School graduate and member of the First Baptist Church, Cherryville.
She was a nutritionist at Senior Center in Cherryville, for the Gaston County Department of Social Service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Lee Mundy, six brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include son, Michael Mundy of Charlotte; two daughters, Lisa Anne Mauney and husband Phil of Crouse, Margaret Lyles of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Blake Edward Putnam, Stacy Cornwell and husband Kasey, Anna Ruth Mauney; two great grandchildren, Ava Lee Cornwell and Kasen Lewis Cornwell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. Burial will be in the City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

Alice Rhyne Pittman
Alice Rhyne Pittman, age 91, of 515 Norman Fair Avenue in Lincolnton, went to sleep in Christ on Saturday, February 9, 2013.
Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Gibson officiating. The body will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in the Pine Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Spruce Pine. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. this evening at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pittman was born September 20, 1921 in Mitchell County to the late Jesse W. and Effie Turbyfill Rhyne. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Pittman. She was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and much-loved friend and mother figure to countless people other than family.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth Pittman and wife Bonnie of Morganton; a daughter, Carol Bumgarner and husband Andrew of Cherryville; a brother, Harold Rhyne of Spruce Pine; two sisters, Doris Thompson and Lucille Burleson, both of Spruce Pine; five grandchildren, Kenneth C. Pittman of Oceanside, Calif., Timothy Michael Pittman of Morganton, Sandra Portilla of Burlington, Beverly Lunsford of Morganton, and Jacob V. Pittman of Houston, Tex.; and seven great-grandchildren, Christian Miles Spake, Michaela E. Pittman, Sophia N. Pittman, Ashlyn Williams, Lillie M. Pittman, Aden S. Lunsford, and Troy Martin.

Charles Stowe Brown
HICKORY — Charles Stowe Brown followed his path to heaven late on the night of February 6, 2013. He was at Hospice in Hickory and died of pneumonia complicated by Parkinson’s disease.
Stowe was born May 16, 1939 in Lincoln County to the late Mary and Pressley Brown. He moved to Hickory when he was 15 years old. After 38 years of service at MDI as Transportation Manager, he retired in 1995. To hundreds of MDI employees, he was much more than their leader; he was a father figure and assisted many in their personal lives.
Left to carry on his memory are wife, Barbara Brown of Hickory and two stepsons, Kenny and Kerry Hollar. Left to carry on his legacy are one daughter, Donna Brown Self of Lincolnton and husband David D. Self; and one grandson, Michael Brown Smith; one son, David Carlton Brown of Granite Falls and one granddaughter, Sarah Brown; one sister, Myrtle Simmons of Crouse and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two half-sisters, five half-brothers and his first wife, Dean Brown Starnes.
The family received friends and family at 2:30 p.m., on Sunday February 10, 2013, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. Both the receiving and memorial was held at Bass-Smith Funeral Home, Hickory.

Charles ‘Buddy’ Reep
Charles “Buddy” Reep, age 83, of 814 Clarke Drive in Lincolnton died Saturday, February 9, 2013.
Mr. Reep was born April 19, 1929 in Lincoln County. He was the son of the late Lawson P. Reep and Delia Tutherow Reep. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie S. Reep; brother, Franklin Carroll Reep and sister, Margaret Thames. Mr. Reep was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict where he received two bronze stars. He retired as a produce manager at Joe and Jim’s super market.
The committal service will be held at noon today, February 11, 2013 at Forest Lawn Cemetery with DAV burial rites. A service to celebrate his life will be at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Lincolnton. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
Survivors include his son, Eric Reep of Lincolnton; brother, David Reep and wife Betty P. of Hickory; sister, Kay Lawing and husband Donald of Lincolnton.

IRON STATION — Helen Elaine White, age 66, of 1002 Shady Retreat Lane in Iron Station, died on Friday, February 8, 2013.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Heavenly View Baptist Church with the body to lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. this evening at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mrs. White was born January 29, 1947 in McDowell County, W.Va. to the late Roscoe and Ethel McGlaughlin Estep. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Dewey “Eddie” White. She worked in manufacturing.
She is survived by three sons, Duane Moore of Advance, James Moore and Tony Moore, both of Mooresville; daughter, Angela Alls of Mooresville; three brothers, Jessie Estep of Va., Jackie Estep, and Sampson Estep, all of Yukon, W.Va.; two sisters, Peggy Cabell of Radford, Va. and Lula Muncy of Hillsville, Va.; and ten grandchildren.

Gladys Shoop Swanson, age 91, of Huntersville died February 8, 2013 at Olde Knox Commons in Huntersville. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Chicago.
