The West Lincoln Rebels boys varsity basketball team fell to Highland Tech 71-61 on Thursday and lost to Cherryville 87-78 on Friday.
Highland Tech led 14-13 after the first quarter and held a 28-23 halftime lead. The Rebels cut Highland Tech’s lead to four points in the second half, forced 22 turnovers and made 10 3-point baskets.
Alec Bruning scored a team-high 14 points for the Rebels (2-16, 0-1 Southern Piedmont Conference). Houston Gilmore scored 11 points and Brett Huff added 10 points.
The Rebels held a 17-16 lead over Cherryville at the end of the first quarter on Friday. Cherryville then outscored West Lincoln 20-10 in the second quarter to take a 36-27 lead at the halftime break.
Bruning scored seven second-quarter points, but the rest of the Rebels managed three field goals in the period.
The Rebels outscored Cherryville 26-24 in the fourth quarter.
Huff led West Lincoln in scoring with 19 points. Bruning added 13 points, Dylan Frady scored 12 points and Daniel Schesny scored 10 points with 14 rebounds.
West Lincoln hosts first-place Lake Norman Charter (14-4, 9-1) on Tuesday.
