Lincoln Charter’s fourth annual Talon Challenge fundraiser, a partnership between Lincoln Charter and Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy centered on middle school and high school basketball games between the schools, begins today with a 70-mile “game ball run” between the schools’ campuses and completed by students. The Talon Challenge began on Tuesday with a blood drive through the Red Cross and Community Blood Center at Lincoln Charter’s Lincolnton and Denver campuses.
Proceeds from the Talon Challenge benefits the V Foundation, a North Carolina nonprofit that supports cancer research.
Games between Lincoln Charter and Thomas Jefferson will be held on Friday, with the middle school girls game beginning at 3 p.m. and concluding with the varsity boys game beginning at 9 p.m.
The winner will be determined based on a points system that awards 10 points to the winner of each basketball game, 10 points for the school with the most donated blood and one point for each free throw made by the schools’ chief administrators at the games on Friday.
Through the Talon Challenge over the last three years both schools have given approximately $15,000 to the V Foundation and have donated hundreds of pints of blood.
