Broom sale
The Lincolnton Lions Club will be selling children’s mops and household and industrial brooms throughout the year at the following locations: Mosteller’s Barber Shop, People’s Bank in Lincolnton and Denver, all three locations of The Drug Store and City Lunch. Proceeds will benefit Lions Club scholarships and other charities along with services for the blind/visually impaired, some of which include the purchase of eyeglasses and eye exams as well as sponsorships for blind individuals to attend Camp Dogwood.

Talon Challenge
Lincoln Charter middle and high school basketball teams will battle Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy in Forest City as part of the schools’ 4th Annual Talon Challenge.

Church breakfast
Bethel Baptist Church, 200 Bethel Ch. Rd. in Lincolnton, will host a breakfast buffet 7-10 a.m.

Valentine’s dinner
St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4051 King Wilkinson Rd. in Lincolnton, will host a Valentine’s dinner 5:30-9 p.m. in their Family Life Center. All proceeds will benefit the church building fund.
Childcare and a picnic for the children will be provided.

Local concert
The Lincoln Cultural Center in Lincolnton will host a Music Maker Relief Foundation concert featuring Cool John Ferguson, ranked one of the top five guitar players in the world, 7 p.m. in the Timken Performance Hall.

Church concert
Grace Baptist Church, 495 Horseshoe Lake Rd. in Lincolnton, will host Mooresville-based singing group “The Gospelaires” in concert at 7 p.m.

World religions study
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will host a weekly “World Religions” study starting with Judaism 10:30 a.m. in the parish house, 315 N. Cedar St. in Lincolnton.

Church lunch
Crouse UMC, 3311 Crouse School Rd. in Crouse, will host a luncheon 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with country-style steak. Individuals may dine-in or carry-out.
Proceeds will benefit the church building fund.

“Souper Bowl” party
Salem Lutheran and United Church of Christ, 3410 Startown Road in. Lincolnton, will host a “Souper Bowl of Caring” at noon with soup, sandwiches and dessert.
Donations will be accepted for Christian Ministry of Lincoln County.

Golf event
Cherryville Golf & Country Club, 200 Club Dr. in Cherryville, will host a reverse par 3 captain’s choice event with tee off at 4:15 p.m.

Health presentation
The Lincoln County Health Department will host a Breast Self-Awareness Presentation 10:30 a.m. at the East Lincoln Community Center, 8160 Optimist Club Rd. in Denver. Mary Elaine Knight, BSN, will be the guest speaker.

Lions Club
Gary Greene, former state council chair for the Lions Club, multiple district 31 global membership chair and club liaison for the N.C. Boys & Girls Home in Lake Waccamaw, N.C., will serve as guest speaker at the Lincolnton Lions Club meeting 7 p.m. in the Elm Classroom of the Lincoln Medical Plaza, 441 McAlister Dr. in Lincolnton. Members and guests planning to eat in the CMC-Lincoln cafeteria should arrive 30 minutes early.

Dream Date contest
The Downtown Development Association of Lincolnton is currenlty taking entries for their 2013 Downtown Dream Date contest. DDA will provide participating businesses with entry forms, a drop box and a point of purchase display. Employees and business owners may enter but not at their place of work.
Customers may enter one time per business. DDA Board of Directors and their immediate families are ineligible for the contest. Also, contestants must be at least 18 years old to participate. The grand prize winner, who will be selected Feb. 12, will receive a Valentine’s Day dinner for two at Court Street Grille, a flower arrangement provided by Drum’s Florist, two massage gift certificates and a gift basket filled with goodies from other participating businesses. Carriage rides will also be offered 6-9 p.m. Feb. 14.

Kid’s consignment sale
Highland Drive Free Will Baptist Church, 2742 Highland Dr. in Lincolnton, is currently looking for consignors for their kid’s consignment sale March 8 & 9.

Drum-Wilkinson scholarships
The Drum-Wilkinson Educational Foundation (DWEF) is currently seeking applications for one more scholarships to be awarded in May. Submit applications by March 29. To be considered, applicants must present a completed application in accordance with DWEF’s Guide and Requirements available online through Jan. 31.

Caregivers class
Register now to attend a free “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” educational class at the James W. Warren Citizens Center in Lincolnton. Classes will be 1-2:30 p.m. every Wednesday March 6 through April 10. Classes will be sponsored by the Lincoln County Cooperative Extension.

Lions Club scholarships
The Lincolnton Lions Club plans to award one $500 scholarship to four separate Lincoln County high school seniors this year including one student apiece from Lincolnton, North Lincoln, West Lincoln and East Lincoln High School. Previous Lions Club college scholarship winners or family members along with other individuals, businesses or organizations who would like to contribute to future Lions Club scholarships may send checks to the following address: Lincolnton Lions Club, 1106 Timberlane Dr. in Lincolnton, N.C. 28092. Note “Lions Club scholarship” in the check’s memo line.
Students interested in applying can seek an application and information on guidelines from their school’s guidance counselor.
