Singing Convention

Polar Plunge
Special Olympics will host their annual Polar Plunge 10 a.m. at Sally’s YMCA in Denver. Registration will be 8:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for the top fundraiser and best costumes. Photography Club
The Lincoln Photography Club will meet 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Lincoln Cultural Center, 403 E. Main St. in Lincolnton. The topic will be portrait photography. Individuals are asked to bring camera equipment for hands-on practice.

Lincolnton Toastmasters, a club centered on a nurturing environment for refining individuals’ communication and leadership skills, will meet 7-8:15 p.m. at the Lincoln Cultural Center, 403 E. Main St., Lincolnton. The group meets every Monday.

Student orientation
Today through Thursday Gaston College is offering its four-day Basic Skills New Student Orientation class for students interested in obtaining a GED or Adult High School diploma. Classes will be 9 a.m. to noon and 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Campus. Individuals must attend the class before taking the test. Also, in 2014, the cost of the GED will go up, the method of testing will be changed, and previous partial test scores will expire. For more information, call (704) 748-5226.

Scholarship application
The Drum-Wilkinson Educational Foundation (DWEF) is currently seeking applications for one more scholarships to be awarded in May. Submit applications by March 29. To be considered, applicants must present a completed application in accordance with DWEF’s Guide and Requirements available online through Jan. 31.
