Roger Johnson

Roger Johnson, 53, of Lincolnton was called home into the arms of his Savior on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Hock Family Pavillion and Hospice Center in Durham after battling a long illness.

Roger was born March 14, 1959, in Bradshaw, W.Va., the son of the late Bill and Anna Mae Johnson.  He was a member of Iron Station Missionary Church, and enjoyed southern gospel music, fishing, visiting the beach, spending time with his family, and he loved to share his personal testimony with others. Through all of his struggles, Roger always put God first in his life.  He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and an inspiration to everyone he met.

Survivors include his loving wife Debra of the home; two sons, Darin of Maiden, and Chris and wife Terri of Salisbury. He is also survived by five brothers, Estil, Billy, Brian, Kenny, and Michael, as well as six sisters, Paula, Gay, Sharon, Carol, Teresa, and Mary. Roger leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as two precious grandchildren, Katelyn and Caleb, whom he loved dearly.

Visitation was held Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Good Samaritan Funeral Home, 3362 N. Highway 16, Denver. Funeral services will be held today at 1 p.m. with Reverend Christopher Johnson and Reverend Eddie Black officiating at Iron Station Missionary Church, 2583 Will Schronce Road, Lincolnton. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of his niece Destinee.

Mary Pauline Schronce Carpenter

Mrs. Mary Pauline Schronce Carpenter, age 71, of 1638 Roseland Drive in Lincolnton died on Friday, January 18, 2013.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyeth Lindsay and Rev. Robert Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Carpenter was born on March 26, 1941 in Catawba County to the late Stonewall Jackson and Ruby Lee Canipe Schronce. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lytton Carpenter Sr.; two sons, James Lytton Carpenter Jr., Lonnie Ray Carpenter Sr.; one brother, Fred Adam Schronce and one sister, Nancy Dellinger.

Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia Rhodes and husband Gerald of Crouse; four grandchildren, Miranda Rhodes of Cherryville, Dustin Rhodes of Crouse, Angela Carpenter of the home, Lonnie Carpenter Jr., of the home; eight great-grandchildren, Nicholas Watkins, Jasmine Carpenter, Michael Rubio, Alexis Watkins, Trey Carpenter, Madelynn Grubbs, Autumn Carpenter, McKenna Rhodes; numerous nieces and nephews.

Veronica Ann Caldwell

Veronica Ann Caldwell, 46, of Hagerstown, Md. died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at her home.

Born August 29, 1966, in Canton, Ohio, she was the daughter of Ronald P. and Agnes M. Baker Harbert of Lincolnton.

She was a graduate of The University of North Carolina, at Chapel Hill with a B.S. degree in speech communication and political science, and a graduate of Regis University in Denver, Colo. with a master degree in Information Technology Management.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Michael David Caldwell; a brother, Chris Harbert of Lincolnton; aunt and uncles, Virginia Zufall of Canton, Ohio, uncle, Dennis Close and wife, Pamela of North Canton, Ohio and Thomas Harbert of Canton, Ohio; great aunt and uncle, Clementine Bourquin of Canton, Ohio and Herbert Kuepfer and wife, Betty of Grafton, Ohio.

A memorial service will be held in Chapel Hill in the spring. There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Maryland.

Roger Dale Upton Sr. 

Roger Dale Upton Sr. of Cherryville died January 17, 2013.

A memorial service was held January 20, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date. The family received friends from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.

Preston Goforth

Preston Goforth, 83, of Lincolnton died on January 18, 2013.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in the Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery with military rites.  The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Z’yon King Robinson

Z’yon King Robinson, infant son of Quierston Holloway and Hons Robinson, died January 13, 2013.

There will be a private graveside service.

Goodin-Drum Funeral Home, Maiden is serving the Holloway and Robinson families.

 

Clyde Morris

Clyde Morris, 96, of Lexington, formerly of Sherrills Ford, died on Friday, January 18, 2013.

Hilda Purvis Knight, 72, of Lincolnton died January 19, 2013.

Mary Jo Setzer

Mary Jo Elmore Setzer, 91, of Claremont died January 19, 2013.

A graveside service was held January 20, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, Claremont.

Burke Mortuary, Newton is serving the Setzer family.
