Wreck on N.C. 27 breaks power pole, sends driver to the hospital
Lincoln County Emergency Medical Services transported a man to a Cleveland County hospital Wednesday afternoon after West Lincoln Rescue Squad workers said he crashed into a power pole along N.C. 27 West, breaking it in half.
The single-vehicle incident occurred around 2 p.m. in front of Hull’s Grove Baptist Church, according to the Lincoln County Communications Center.
Power crews with Duke Energy were on scene around 4 p.m. trying to restore power to the area.
According to the Duke Energy website, more than 800 people across the county were without power around 4:30 p.m. However, it’s not clear from the website what percentage of the residents with outages live in the area surrounding the wreck site.
Portions of N.C. 27 West, from the intersection of Cedar Grove Church Road to the intersection of N.C. 274, remain closed at this time.
Firefighters are unsure as to how long the closure will last.
North Brook Fire Department also responded to the scene.
Additional details on the incident were not available at time of publication.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
