William John Ferris Jr. of Cherryville, formerly of Charlotte, died December 12, 2012.

Alton Webber Hallman Jr.
Mr. Alton Webber Hallman Jr., age 61, of 618 Springs East Road in Lincolnton, died on Monday, December 10, 2012.
His funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Buffalo Shoals Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Lanier officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The body will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service. Visitation was from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Hallman was born March 26, 1951 in Lincoln County to Juneous Webber Hallman Jr. and the late Clara Ledwell Hallman. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Hight. He was the owner of Al Hallman Home Repair.
He is survived by his father, Juneous Webber Hallman Jr.; two sons, Steven Conrad Hallman and Nelson Troy Hallman, both of Lincolnton; one granddaughter, Pamela White of Lincolnton; one grandson, Justin Hallman of Lincolnton; one brother, Benny Hallman of Lincolnton; one sister, Kathy Foster of Sherrills Ford; fiancé, Luvenia Moretz of Lincolnton; and their families.

Polly Sherrill Heavner
Polly Sherrill Heavner, age 82, of 489 Alf Hoover Road in Lincolnton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 12, 2012.
Her funeral service will be 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Bethphage Lutheran Church with Pastor Fred Mitschke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Mrs. Heavner was born May 30, 1930 in Catawba County to the late Harry and Nancy White Sherrill. She worked as a secretary for Lincoln County Schools.
She is survived by her husband, M.S. Heavner of the home; one son, Joel D. Heavner and wife Bambi of Lincolnton; two daughters, Lisa Jan Brady and husband Kevin of Sherrills Ford and LouAnn Huffman and husband Jeff of Denver; one sister, Sue Lutz and husband Thad of Terrell; one sister-in-law, Nell Sherrill of Sherrills Ford; seven grandchildren, Seth and wife Jeana Heavner, Kirk and wife Tara Heavner, Joanna and husband Matt Hovis, Collin Brady, Austin Brady, Fallon Huffman, and Carley Huffman; and two great-grandsons, Miles Heavner and Brennan Heavner.

Roger Dale King
Vale — Mr. Roger Dale King, 63, passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born November 12, 1949 in Lincoln County, the son of Frank and Iola Smith King. He attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, was a US Army veteran, serving as a Sergeant in Vietnam, retired from the City of Newton and also was formerly employed by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Dept. A member of the Hickory American Legion Post 48, he was an avid outdoorsman; enjoyed working with his hands and had a love for the mountains. He was a generous, good hearted quick witted person, who never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by the family and friends he left behind. He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers’ Eddie, Kenneth, Eugene and James.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Joy King; three children, Tracey Yarington and husband, Sherman of D’Iberville, Miss., Joshua King and fiancée, Ariel Paredez of Vale and Jonathan King and fiancée, Lauren Goans of Hickory; three brothers, Bill King of Sherrills Ford, Larry King of Gastonia and Lonnie King of Gastonia; a sister, Dorothy Hudspeth of Lincolnton and seven grandchildren, Jada, Alyssa, Jonathan, Ian, Addison, Roxanne and Juniper.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Catawba Funerals and Cremations by Rev. Sidney Goodson. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jonathan Wayne Lester
Jonathan Wayne Lester, 41, of L.R. Schronce Lane, Iron Station passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012 following a long illness. He was born on March 16, 1971 in Brenton, W.Va. He was the son of Oscar William Lester and Nettie Marie Hatfield Lester.
Jonathan was employed as a skilled track hoe operator in which he worked up until his death. He was an Adult Sunday School teacher at The Word of Hope Full Gospel Church in Mooresville and also served the Lord as an Adult Sunday School teacher for The Old Country Church in Terrell previously. Jonathan was a person that was loved by everyone for his kind words spoken.
He was preceded in death by his dear sister, Susan Trent in 2009.
In addition to his parents, John is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Lori Manns Lester. They were blessed with three children; daughters, Brittany Nicole Lester and Lorissa Erin Lester and son, Baruch Nathaniel Lester whom he shared his love for hunting and fishing.
He left behind four brothers and sisters, Steve Lester of Iron Station, Kendall Joyce Morgan and spouse, Donald of Maiden, Sherry Burrell and spouse, Jeff of Oceana, W.Va. and Anthony Keith Lester and spouse, Serena of Iron Station. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will always remember, Uncle John.
A Memorial Service will be held this evening at 7 p.m. at The Word of Hope Full Gospel Church located at 139 Market Road, Mooresville, NC with Rev. Woody Stacy and Rev. John Blankenship officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at The Word of Hope Church. He will be laid to rest at the Lester Family Cemetery located in Brenton, W.Va.
