An elderly man has confessed to his involvement in at least two sex-related incidents with a child whom he knew, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.
Rex Randolph Beaver, 72, of 3114 Loomis Street in Lincolnton, was charged Monday for allegedly inappropriately touching a female victim on Nov. 1 and Dec. 8, according to an agency press release.
Beaver faces one felony count each of first-degree sexual offense (victim under 13) and indecent liberties with a child and remains in the Lincoln County jail under a $250,000 secured bond.
While the overall number of reported sex crimes in Lincoln County has slightly increased since last year, incidents involving child victims has decreased, according to statistics compiled by Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Johnson.
In 2011, the Sheriff’s Office worked 30 child victim cases; they’ve worked 24 so far this year. Johnson said cases of forcible rape have doubled and sexual battery more than quadrupled in 2012.
