A house fire on the county’s southeastern end Thursday morning displaced a couple and their six children, according to firefighters with South Fork Fire Department, the incident’s primary responding agency.
Smoke was billowing from the home’s roof and attic area when firefighters arrived on scene around 8:10 a.m.
No one was inside the home at the time, firefighters said.
Crouse and Lincolnton Fire Departments responded to the one-story brick home with mutual aid, but due to high heat and smoke damage, South Fork firefighters told the Times-News they believed the home would be deemed a total loss.
The Lincoln County Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an investigation into the blaze to determine its cause.
The American Red Cross has since stepped in to house the family in a local hotel.
